The New Republic, since the final, ultimate defeat of Emperor Palpatine some months ago, had enjoyed a series of impressive victories against the Imperial Remnant. Much of the worlds captured by Palpatine in his brief, resurgent campaign had been reclaimed, of course, but gains had also been made in the traditional "Imperial" space. Esfandia and Generis had been liberated by the Republic and, most recently, Phaeda. The Imperial Ruling Council (the last bastion of legitimate, Imperial authority) had also been driven from its haven at Ord Cantrell, and subsequently devolved into the "Council of Moffs." Although still weakened considerably from "Shadow Hand," as Palpatine's campaign had been known, the Republic was nonetheless having some late success in recent months, particularly with the largest of the Remnant warlords, Harssk and Teradoc, busy combating each other.

The most notable exception, however, was Mygeeto. The Chief of State had spent considerable time courting the planet, signing a defense pact with it, even visiting it personally, and holding it up as an example of the New Republic's commitment to beleaguered Outer Rim worlds. The Council of Moffs had obliterated the argument, however, when it simply (and suddenly) reinforced its claim to the world, and its troop presence. This had occurred during the Republic's series of victories at Esfandia, Generis and Phaeda, and thus did not recieve the media attention that it otherwise would have. But the reality was still there; that the New Republic had lost an important symbol, and one of personal importance to the Chief of State.

It was probably no coincidence, then, that two flights of A-wing starfighters (six total) dropped out of hyperspace close to Mygeeto, on a scouting mission. They flew close enough to scan the planet's defenses and relay the information back to the fleet. The starfighters took their time, knowing that they would probably be detected anyway from their conspicuous bursts of communications and deciding, thus, to get the most accurate data they could while they were there.

As soon as the A-Wings approached the planet a squadron of TIE Interceptors on patrol close into the defenses moved to intercept the nimble A-Wings, swooping in on the two flights from different angles to engage before they could collect a great deal of Data. To complicate matters, a nearby Frigate also attempted to Jam their sensors by broadcasting interfearance on several long range scanning frequencies (not effecting the TIE's gunnery sensors).

Their communications effectively jammed, the A-wings simply recorded what data they could to bring back themselves, or transmit once they were out of range. They were forced to evade the TIEs, however, as each flight of three fighters each broke off in roughly opposite directions, and then each individual fighter peeled from their formations so as to divide the Interceptors' fire, taking evasive maneuvers all the while. They used their superior acceleration to eventually leave the TIEs far enough behind them that they could turn in long arcs and go back the way they'd come, away from the planet, where they could prepare to jump back to hyperspace.

With the TIE Interceptors apparently confused by the maneuvers, and left behind with inferior acceleration, the A-wings evaded them unscathed and escaped to hyperspace, to bring their sensor data back to the fleet.
