Many (if not all) of us will remember the day, almost two years ago, when Mr. Dustil Sushere and his mercenary group "Patriot Defense Services" submitted an application to this Senate. Sushere's vague remarks, insinuations, withholding of information, and even threats to the New Republic caused widespread condemnation of Sushere as an inadequate, incompetent blackmailer.

As our friend and colleague, Senator Emerest, remarked at the time, "If it weren't for these ridiculous claims and insinuations I would say we have an illegal corporation that deals weapons and is trying to bribe the Republic into buying its ships so that it will remain 'loyal.'" Emerest was right, and apparently it was worse than we knew; the "PDS" is a mercenary group with its own soldiers and its own fleet, and now it seems as though they have collaborated with the Remnant to assault an innocent Republic world.

As Dustil Sushere himself said, "... the New Republic is not what I believe anymore." I think his actions at Dantooine today have proven his flimsy convictions, or lack thereof. Senator Emerest was not the only delegate at that time who called for "PDS" to be taken over by the Republic, with force if necessary. Now I am inclined to agree; we simply cannot have a mercenary fleet operating in our space, bribing or intimidating or even attacking our worlds.

So I move that the New Republic Defense Fleet and law enforcement agencies be granted permission to detain Dustil Sushere and members of his organization for questioning in relation to the Dantooine incident, and that such fleets and agencies be permitted to use whatever force is necessary to stop "PDS" once and for all, if in fact it is as sinister as it seems.

"With all respect Chief of State, the InterGalactic Mining Core would like to make a simple inquiry that may or may not have any value in the determination of the PDS and its branding as a rogue mercenary group that is trying to destroy the Republic. However, in lieu of such information the IMC will proudly and soundly defend the Chief of States movement and motion to approve the detainment of any and all PDS and affiliated groups that are in league with such a dangerous group. However, as aforementioned, perhaps the NRI or this administration has come to some conclusion as to which Imperial faction is responsible for being in league with the Patriotic Defense Services, or some such as they are called. While I agree that the PDS are a problem given there attack on Dantooine, I recall the battle report as listing that an Imperial battlegroup was attached to the PDS.

My question is thus, which group is responsible? If we do not show our strength to whichever Imperial dog backed the PDS then we are simply showing that the Republic will not engage Imperial forces and instead attack the smaller of the task force that blatantly soiled the planet of Dantooine. We must show strength to both the Galaxy and the Imperials, that the Republic will exact justice to both.

I ask again Chief of State if there is any information pertaining to which Imperial force was backing the PDS."

I thank the Representative for his vote, and his concern. With regard to his comments, make no mistake that we are viewing this as an Imperial assault on Dantooine, with PDS as an apparent accessory. At this point, we believe that the primary aggressor is the Council of Moffs, but we're still awaiting confirmation. But with respect to exacting justice, I would refer the Representative to my earlier remarks, and hope that they make my sentiments on this matter absolutely clear both to the good Representative, and to the Remnant itself.
