I am here in response to Senator de Crion's statements regarding our current situation with Chief of State Gavrisom. I must agree with Senator de Crion that our current Chief of State's reclusion is unbecoming, but if he is indeed really sick, then I wish for his speedy recovery. I also wish a speedy recovery regarding the current condition Senator Emerest is in, otherwise he would be up and resuming Gavrisom's duties in the Senate. Yes, Chief of State has left us with quite a mess. We not only have someone that we do not know who is next in line to resume Gavrisom's duties, but someone outside the Republic, such as the Remnant and the Mandalorians, needs to be able to speak to a leader. However, that doesn't mean the Senate have to stall. We don't have to stop everything simply because we don't know who's next in line of succession. If our current administration is not present to meet with the challenges and daily activities within the Senate and every other branches within the New Republic, then the Senate must be prepared to do so in order to keep everything running smoothly. The Senate is the voice of our galactic government and our own people. We cannot stop everything simply because our leaders aren't presented nor heard. Let's face the fact: Our current administration is not present, and we do not know how long we would be kept in this situation. That is precisely why we cannot stop everything simply because our leaders are not present. We must take matters into our own hands until the time that our current administration is able to lead once again. The Senate face the challenges ahead., and we will ride out and meet every challenge that is imposed upon us. Granted, things would be more difficult. Every single Senator and Representative must work together in order to keep the government running smoothly. I have the utmost confidence in the Senate. We can still accomplish a great deal if we keep on moving and work together. I will do my part in the Senate, and I expect everybody else to do the same.

Tremaine Fowlkes,
Senator of Mowgle

While I am pleased that you have joined me in my call for action by the administration, I must point out a glaring mistake in your train of thought, Senator. The fact remains, that the Common Charter strongly states the seperation of the Executive and Legislative branches. While indeed, they are integrated, they still have seperate powers. The legislation is able to introduce and vote on legislation, as well as the function of the various Councils. The executive, opens, mediates, and closes debate, guides the General Ministry and other bodies of government, among many other duties that are expected of a head of state.

In our system, without the executive, the legislative can not work. Just as a voice is non-existent without a brain. The Senate can not just decide to take over. That would be unconstitutional and a usurption of power along the lines of Palpatine's moves concerning the Galactic Republic, and I will not allow that happen; not now, not ever. We will not devolve into autocracy; now is the time in which we must prevail. The ideals and beliefs invested into, and the text and powers of, the Common Charter must be upheld, even in a time of crisis and stagnation. Should you wish to change that, I suggest you bring forth legislation that introduces a constitutional ammendment or call for a constitutinal congress to convene. I would advise that you build some strong backdoor support first, though.

The Republic will stand as it was last year, last month. last week yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that, and on and on. As long as I am part of this government, I will fight to keep it that way. This is not only directed towards Senator Fowlkes, but any other Senator that believes that they can take advantage of the situation and disregard the Common Charter. I will stand as the Vanguard of the Common Charter and the New Republic, and I still stand alone if I must, but I know there are many out there that will stand with me.

If I may, Senators, there is far too much drama here. First, I don't believe that Senator Fowlkes has suggested a "usurpation of power," or anything of this sort. I am not a friend of the Senator, but I don't think anyone who is reasonably familiar with him could possibly compare him, of all people, to Palpatine. Second, there is no crisis here. The Chief of State has been ill, and he shall return to his duties presently. This is certainly no cause for alarmist words. I believe Senator Fowlkes had it quite right; the Senate should go about its business as usual in the Chief of State's absense.

Perhaps Senator Crion is simply being vigilant, but I remind him our words here should be assured and assuring, not alarmist.

*Having been absent for some time, Ponc returned to the Senate chamber, his feathers all neatly preened*

Gentlemen,

Rumours of my untimely demise are it seems, exagerated, as are rumours of any coup. For my part I apologise for missing so many sittings of the Senate due to an unfortunate bout of Avian Flu, but I am back on my feet, filled with vim and vigour and happy to announce my full return to Public Duties.

Now, speculation on the multiple possible alternatives to my own administration aside, I believe the Senate has business to conduct?

I realise now that my words were indeed alarmist, and I overreacted to Senator Fowlke's words. To you, Senator Fowlkes, I apoligize. To Senator Cambrist, I thank you sir, for helping me see my error. To the Chief of State, I am pleased to see you have finally recovered, and yes indeed, we do have work to do.
