They sat alone in a room otherwise empty, save for a table and two chairs and the soft humming of machinery ever present on any capital ship. Colonel Blount sat at one end of the table, reading from a datapad in his lap and allowing the silence to fill the space between him and Zack Sushere, seated opposite. Sushere, whose mercenary organization had been labeled a threat to the New Republic, had surrendered himself and his crew over the planet Mowgle after apparently fleeing an ambush at nearby Ahlenn. Blount (of New Republic Intelligence) had been summoned to question him.

It was obvious from the Sushere's very expression, not to mention his intelligence file, that he was disheartened. Blount set down the datapad, leaned forward in his chair, and sighed. "What I don't understand," he began, "Is why, after being rejected by the Senate, after all this killing, all of these men dead at Ahlenn, at NL-1, with your few survivors poorly fed, poorly trained, and with your own brother missing, presumed dead.. why do you persist in this madness? If you wanted to fight the Remnant, why didn't you just join the Republic's ranks in the first place? Why throw all these men's lives away? And for what?"

Blount shook his head, and looked back to the datapad, not expecting an answer to his question, for there could be none. He rubbed the stubble on his chin (it had been a long flight to Mowgle) as he began his questioning. "All right Mr. Sushere, I have a few questions for you, as you might imagine. I'll ask them of you all at once, so that you can answer them as you deem best, and I will repeat them if need be." He spoke in a sort of bureaucratic monotone that was not at all sympathetic to Sushere, though the subtle exasperation in his voice was.

"Foremost, are you aware that the PDS, of which you are an officer, has been implicated in an attack upon the New Republic world of Dantooine? Are you aware that two confirmed PDS vessels, the Defender and the Justice, were used in that assault? Secondly, to your knowledge, under whose authority was the attack on Dantooine carried out? Under whose authority was the attack on the Imperial space station NL-1 carried out (as you claim)? Under whose authority, if anyone's, does the PDS operate lawfully at all?"

He sighed again, but pressed on. "The rest of my questions have to do with your personnel. Are you aware," he continued, "that the PDS has been operating illegally, and that criminal charges might be brought against you or your brother for endangering the lives of your men, who are themselves New Republic citizens? Are you aware of the whereabouts of your brother, Dustil Sushere, or the whereabouts of the Defender and her crew, and the crew of the Justice? And are you aware that all of these men are now implicated in collaborating with the Imperial Remnant and the murder of innocent civilians?"

"Answer in whatever way you think most fit. Thank you," he looked away from the datapad and back to Sushere as he leaned back in his seat once more, awaiting his explanation.

Zack Sushere was disheartened to begin with. He decided not to answer the first wave of questions the Republican agent have sent. Perhaps it was too personal for him or even his brother to answer. The man would keep on listening to the agent asking the next wave of questions so that he would be able to clear things up with the Republic.

Zack would be puzzled that both of his PDS ships were at Dantooine, attacking that world. He wasn't aware of it at all. He would clear his throat before speaking to the interrogator, "What? Why would the PDS be involved in an attack over Dantooine? There is no way the PDS would want to cooperate with the Imperial Remnant."

He would sigh before moving on, "Dustil Sushere have ordered this attack on NL-1 to be carried out. When they left to attack the Imperial station, I was left to watch over the base at Ahlenn. When the warships owned by PDS did not come back on the time as they were supposed to, I was beginning to worry. Then the next thing I know is that the Gemmell's faction had two warships emerged out of hyperspace above Ahlenn. We sent a transmission that was supposed to go to nearby Bespin. But it was picked up by a rival faction, Pentastar Alignment, since it was in their territory. They fend Gemmell's men off and then tried to stop us from escaping. We succeed in doing so but not without a cost. The men on the base was perished, along with two transports, one of them tries to sacrifice themselves by attempting to ram one of the warships.""

"I strongly doubt that Dustil or his men would want to cooperate with the Imperials in attacking the Republic. The PDS' plan was to assault either faction bit by bit so that they would be crippled when they have to face the Republic. I haven't been in contact with my brother or his men ever since they left for NL-1. It's possible that they were captured and the Imperials stole the warships from them. But I can say this, we would never cooperate with any factions that are pro-Imperial. We would also never risk our men's lives if they weren't so willing to do so."

"Does that answer your questions?" Zack would then sit back and watch the man, awaiting the next thing he is going to do.
