| Well, it's not plural, actually. Just one announcement. I'm in the land of crappy internet, so my connectivity, let alone my ability to post, is pretty poor at the moment. When I'm able to get on Messenger, it disconnects frequently. I'm also using a © 2004 version of Messenger that doesn't have offline messaging (I'll receive all of your offline messages when I get back to good internet, and a good Messenger, again). Also, needless to say, I can't view Youtube videos—I mention this because I'm as guilty as everyone else is of linking people to Youtube videos on occasion. So yes, I thought I'd make one announcement of that here just so I don't have to tell all of you whom I have on Messenger individually. And finally (I guess these announcements were plural afterall), with Christmas coming up I suspect I, and indeed a few of us, will be more busy than usual. Or not, it's hard for me to say. I'll either not be online at all for these next 2 or 3 days, or online a lot because, honestly, opening presents doesn't take more than a few minutes. This isn't a helpful announcement, I suppose. But suffice to say, for the time I am online, and the time that my internet permits, I'll be posting. I do ask that some lenience is shown me though with regard to the 4 day rule. I promise this is only a temporary circumstance; a medical problem has arisen that necessitates my swift return to Monterey, where I have marginally more accessible health care and, as it happens, better internet access as well. So I don't plan to be here in Northern California for much longer than a week and a half. On a related subject, I'd like to take advantage of this season of warm feelings to criticize Obama's health care law. Ah, but you wonder, criticize it for doing too much, or not doing enough? This is my gift to you this Christmas—to imagine me, and my opinions on this issue, however you'd like. Merry Christmas! (and Happy Hanukkah! And, uh, a Krazy Kwanzaa! And, of course, a solemn and dignified Ramadan, belatedly. Oh, and for our Taiwanese members, happy Constitution Day. Also, a merry Malkh Festival for all the Chechen traditionalists out there. Finally, for the Pakistanis among us, happy Jinnah's birthday! Also, happy Isaac Newton's birthday, and, to name one who is still with us, the great Joe Louis Walker. Yes, Joe Louis Walker—friend to the downtrodden 70-year-old black man in all of us. Or am I the only one with a downtrodden 70-year-old black man in me? Havoc, Merry Christmas bro, but you may not answer this question).

| As an atheist man of Chewish origin, I thank you Jace for covering all the religious and societal bases there. Hope your "medical" emergency is taken care of quickly and, you know, you don't die on us. I honestly don't know what I'd do... I feel like I'd cry, but I might not out of shock and denial. And hah! Now you know how it feels to have youtube videos linked to you that you cannot watch, jacka**... making me suffer with your "Look at this video man, it's awesome!" Before reminding me how I couldn't partake in the revelry. Karma's a bitch man, karma's a bitch. Seriously though, you complete me.

| If you're getting shot at and having rockets flying your way, you probably shouldn't be on the computer, doesn't seem like the safest option there.

| Not to be nitpicky, but you're not really being shot and rocketed for me, per se. *ducks*

| I don't think I'm all that liberal in this case, actually. To me, what I see you doing in Afghanistan is being shot and rocketed for someone else's freedom. That, to me, is far more admirable than fighting even for one's own freedom, and one's own country. Those things are admirable too, of course, but it's just not what I see happening right now. Nor, indeed, at any time since World War 2—which was the last time, it could be argued, when American freedom was actually in peril. The reason I push back against the "fighting for our freedom" phrase isn't the way that you use it, but rather the way that lazy, vote-seeking politicians use it as a sound bite to supposedly demonstrate their support of the troops without any real appreciation of the good things you guys are actually doing over there. That, to me, minimizes the sacrifices that you guys are making, and that's why I won't do it, generally. Sorry if I was misunderstood.

| I almost died yesterday. Headin' home from a friends house after dinner. Started raining. Next thing I know some dude on a bike crashes into my car, causing me to spin out on the slippery wet rode. Messed up my leg again... So now I'm at a hospital waiting for surgery. Laptop's with a wireless card ftw.

| Bear in mind I'm not at all comparing your situation to the story I'm about to tell, but it did remind me of a time when my aunt was driving her car around a blind spot and a kid on a tiny motor scooter appeared suddenly around the bend going in the opposite direction. She missed him, of course, but as she told the story later, "He almost got me!" This was amusing to me considering that if he had "got her," he would be nothing more than a gelatinous red blob on the grill of her car. But again, I'm not making a comparison. Sorry that had to happen to you on Christmas of all days. Take care, man. Hope you're all patched up. Dare I ask, though, what happened to the bicyclist?
