Weather Update 1

Published at 4.00 p.m. on Thursday 17 January 2013

We anticipate the University will be open tomorrow, Friday 18th January. However, the Met Office has issued an amber ‘be prepared’ weather alert for snow in Aberystwyth area during the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The University will continue to monitor the forecast and issue further updates and guidance to staff and students as necessary. All updates regarding severe/adverse weather will be sent via email and appear on the University’s website at http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/important-info/ as well as via the University’s social media channels. Students and staff are advised to continue to monitor these communication channels for relevant announcements.

Let's home the Met Office brings some snow!

Amber alert (capital A) means something different here.

You'd think they'd call it the holy-shit-it's-cold-alert.

We only got 3-6 inches of snow here, mostly all melted quickly. In the mountains they have over a foot.

With the skip there with old mattresses in it the vista is rather depressing outside my door right now..

It's nice in the summer.

To counter any claims that the snow in town is pitifiul (it doesnt settle well due to the salt spray from the sea) my friends and I trekked up to the mountains at last light in his Land Rover (spoiled bastard).

Anyway, we survived and stopped to take a picture by a van someone seemed to have abandoned (which as good citizens we informed the Constables about). As you can see from my friend Polish at like 12 feet away, the visibility was somewhat sub-optimal.
