De Vega Steps Down as CEO of RimCo

Sluis Sector, Outer Rim Territories — Drayson de Vega, the highly visible CEO of the influential trading company "RimCo," has unexpectedly resigned amid rumors that the well-known executive has been chosen as CEO of Imperial Surplus, Inc., a company that's been chartered by the Imperial Senate to sell surplus Imperial armaments to interested customers—a lucrative industry and, if the rumors are true, a step up for Mr. Vega.

Many of RimCo's shareholders, which include the governments of Brentaal and Anaxes, issued statements of thanks to Mr. Vega for his stewardship of the company, which is based on the Outer Rim and has expanded its assets under Mr. Vega, secured mining contracts and other property rights in almost a dozen sectors, and acquired a formidable trade and defense fleet. Mr. Vega, as CEO, has also been involved in the Society for the Improvement of the Outer Rim and, in announcing his resignation from RimCo this afternoon, expressed pride in "the philanthropic attempts the company has made to raise the quality of life on the Outer Rim."

The rumors of Mr. Vega assuming the job of CEO of Imperial Surplus are credible, considering his history. Drayson de Vega has served as the CEO of a number of companies, including the defense contractor Patriot Defense Services, Inc., whose assets were sold to the Empire after a bankruptcy that Mr. Vega managed, and which was praised as "orderly." RimCo, too, has had dealings with the Empire, with a number of the trading and mining posts that it has established having been spun off as subsidiaries and sold to the Empire as well, including the profitable Imperial Mining, Ltd., based on Derilyn.

"[Vega] is someone the Empire can work with," an analyst for Forb magazine told The Coruscant Journal.

Imperial Surplus, Inc. is founded by The Peace and Parity Act, a measure that is expected to pass the Senate in the coming days. The purpose of the company, according to the act, will be "facilitating the sale of surplus Imperial ships and weapons between the Defense Committee... and interested customers." This has proven to be a lucrative source of revenue for the Empire, as it has sold many of its Clone Wars era warships to Imperial worlds for defense. The establishment of a corporation for this purpose represents a recognition of the demand for these ships and a private sector solution to meet it.

With the bill not having passed yet, however, neither Mr. Vega nor Senator Veritas (Deralia), the chairman of the Defense Committee, would comment on the record about the rumors of Vega's appointment as CEO. Mr. Vega did not deny them, however. "I would like to lend my expertise to the Empire, which has done so much for the people of the Outer Rim and for me personally," he said, in announcing his resignation this afternoon.
