Imperials Raid ''Justice for Jedi'' Office

Coruscant — Imperial forces have raided the Coruscant office of the advocacy group 'Justice for Jedi,' which has called for transparency in the trials and sentencing of captured Jedi fugitives and which the Empire has referred to as "treasonous." Though the Empire has raided the office on several occasions, this time it appears to have seized the group's documents—which include information on Jedi who are believed to have been captured and those who remain at large—and arrested most of its members, according to the group's Phuii spokesman, Mars Druodo.

"The Empire has put 'Justice for Jedi' out of operation for the time being," Druodo told The Coruscant Journal from an undisclosed location, expressing a concern for his safety. He also claims to have copies of the group's records in his possession, and that "as long as [he does], the innocent Jedi the Empire has murdered or 'disappeared' without benefit of trial will not be erased from memory."

The Empire maintains that the entirety of the former Jedi Order—an ancient and powerful order of Force-capable 'Knights'—is guilty of treason for an attempted coup d'état against the Senate and its then-Chancellor Palpatine nine years ago. Since that time, as Emperor Palpatine has issued standing orders to kill or capture the Jedi, most of them have been. The Empire has justified these orders on the basis that Jedi are more dangerous than ordinary fugitives and, thus, should be treated differently.

The Imperial Senate has also passed measures, such as the recent 'Jedi Negation Act,' that make it a crime to teach the history of the Jedi in schools or for news publications "to refer, in an informative manner, to the Jedi Order, or to the codes or teachings of the Jedi Order, or to a specific member or members of the Jedi Order" unless the reference is to the capture of a Jedi fugitive. The Coruscant Journal is bound by these limitations.

But critics like the advocacy group 'Justice for Jedi' and its spokesman, Mars Druodo, maintain that the entirety of the Jedi Order, including children, cannot be held responsible for the crimes of a few of them—crimes like 'treason' and 'pederasty' that, according to Druodo, remain unproven. While many Jedi have been killed in recent years from Kessel to Naboo to Shumari, none of the few Jedi who've been captured have gone on public trial.

The Empire has referred to 'Justice for Jedi' and similar groups as "traitors," "Separatists," and "aspiring pederasts." Public opinion in the Core Worlds tends to agree, with 71% in a recent Imperial News Network (INN) survey favoring "any and all means necessary" to "bring the remaining Jedi to justice." Though the survey has been criticized for its partial wording, the general public has long been known to harbor distrust and dislike of the Jedi Order even before the controversial 'Baby Ludi' custody case of twelve years ago.

Today was not the first time that 'Justice for Jedi' had its office raided by Imperial forces, but despite Mr. Druodo's vow to "keep up the fight," it may be the last.
