Deralia Criticized for Operation at Dantooine

Dantooine, Riaoballo Sector — The presence of a Deralian warship at the planet Dantooine, ostensibly to combat a Dantooine-based terrorist presence, has enraged the planet's government and much of the Imperial Senate, as vessels from Druckenwell, Vjun, and other worlds have been dispatched to Dantooine to defend it from what has been described by Senator Terrawin (Alsakan) as Deralia's "shocking and unprovoked attack" on the planet.

"Deralia has no right putting any troops or ships near or on Dantooine without permission from my government," declared Senator Ray (Dantooine). But Senator Veritas (Deralia) denies that any 'attack' has taken place, and maintains the purpose of Deralia's warship at Dantooine is to subdue terrorists it believes to be responsible for firing on Deralia's moon last month, killing scores of Deralians.

But this account has been called into question as documents have surfaced showing that Deralia's operation was planned in advance of the terrorist attack, and is described as "a campaign of rapid domination with the full might of the Deralian military" "to remove [Dantooine's government] from power and... make Dantooine a part of the Kingdom of Deralia." Senator Fitzgerald (Ralltiir) has accused Senator Veritas of using the terrorist attack on Deralia's moon as a pretext "to excuse his colonialist ambitions." And Senator Ray has proposed a motion to oust Senator Veritas as Chairman of the Senate's influential Defense Committee—the third such motion to be proposed during his tenure as Chairman, for various reasons.

Deralia has also been criticized for referring to 'terrorists' on Dantooine without proof. Asked by Senator Cambrist (Brentaal) if there is "infrastructure on Dantooine that Deralia suspects to be in support of the terrorist operations," Senator Veritas did not answer, and asked whether Deralia had contacted Dantooine's government on the subject of the 'terrorists' on the planet, or the Imperial Sector Rangers or any other law enforcement entities, Veritas admitted that it had not.

"Frankly, Deralia can take care of its own against other singular worlds," Veritas said, "There is no use in distracting the assets of other Imperial worlds or that of the Empire itself, in what is, at this time, a Deralian matter." The people of Deralia seem to agree, with 71% of them supporting the operation at Dantooine.

"This is not acceptable at all," said Senator Terrawin (Alsakan), "Whatever your excuse, you attacked Dantooine without bringing your concerns to the Senate or any impartial mediation, without bringing your concerns to the ears of Dantooine's government, without bringing your concerns to the Riaoballo Sector Rangers." Added Terrawin, "If we do not see the situation improve I will be taking the switest actions and surest remedies to improve the situation myself."

Indeed, The Coruscant Journal has received unsubstantiated reports of Alsakan vessels imposing a blockade on Deralia. Deralia, meanwhile, faces a 12 hour deadline to remove its warship from Dantooine's space or Senator Ray will declare its presence there an "act of war." Several worlds, including Druckenwell and Vjun, have treaty obligations to defend Dantooine in the event of war.
