Senator Fowlkes Dead, Witness Says

Imperial Center — Tremaine Fowlkes, little-known Senator of the planet Telos IV, is believed to have died in a fatal plunge from a balcony of the Telosian embassy on Imperial Center, according to a witness who reported the Senator was "drunk" and in a "heated argument" with an unidentified Thakwaash woman, believed to be a prostitute. Both the woman and Senator Fowlkes are reported to have fallen from the balcony, plunging into one of many chasms on Imperial Center used to collect waste and launch it into orbit.

A previously-scheduled launch of garbage within an hour of the incident prevented efforts to recover the bodies, which, authorities believe, were most likely incinerated in the launch.

As Senator of Telos IV, Fowlkes was best-known for proposing that aid be sent to the planet Chad in response to the planet's deadly tsunami last year. He also lobbied unsuccessfully for Imperial funds to restore historical landmarks on Telos IV, and he served as the Chairman of the Imperial Senate's Committee on Monument Preservation and Promotion.

Members of the committee, however, tell INN that Fowlkes "wasn't interested" and "rarely showed up."

In the later months of his term, Fowlkes became a rare sight both in the Senate and on Telos IV, traveling often. The witness to his presumed death, who remains unidentified as the Coruscant Security Force continues to investigate the incident, reported that Fowlkes, who appeared "drunk," and the Thakwaash prostitute were in a "heated argument" on the balcony of the Telosian embassy when the Senator stumbled over the edge, holding on to the Thakwaash as he fell.

Records obtained by INN indicate that the Senator checked in to the embassy, but not out, seeming to confirm the eyewitness account.
