Background: Darryl Varos, Sr. was a common criminal from Socorro who dreamed of a better life for his young son, Jeffen, and moved to the planet Ketaris to make a new, honest life for himself. Jeffen grew up in the slums, watching his father labor in the planet's foundries in the hopes of sending his son to the University of Ketaris. But the university—and Jeffen's father—went bankrupt in the years prior to the Clone Wars. Darryl Varos, Sr. died a poor, but honest man.
Jeffen enlisted in the Ketarisian planetary defense force to escape from the planet's slums. He distinguished himself as a soldier and, later, an officer, eventually rising to the rank of Brigadier General. In the Clone Wars, Ketaris sided with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and Varos did his duty to defend his adopted homeworld from the Republic.
With the war lost, Varos fled Ketaris to escape from post-war recriminations, going underground and assuming the name of his father. Over the years, he lends his expertise to several anti-Imperial insurgencies, including on Mandalore and Dressell. Years later, Vespasian Boldt, an old friend from the war who had since become the Moff of the Yminis Sector, placed Varos in contact with the former senator Royce Tomson; the pair founded the Ruusan Reformation League, an anti-Imperial rebel group, with the secret support of Moff Boldt, who also appointed "Darryl" Varos to be the Ambassador of the (uninhabited) Derso System—a title that bestows diplomatic immunity on him and freedom of movement in the Empire.
Today, Varos is the highest-ranking general of the Ruusan League, commanding the League's fleet and special forces and advising Tomson on strategy.
