| Against. In a democracy, Governor Oswaldt, the Senate doesn't have to agree with all points of view, but it should listen to all points of view. The Interspecies Advisory Committee is invaluable in this regard. It represents the views (not to mention the cultures and customs) of the many species with whom we share this galaxy, and reminds us that we are, indeed, but one of the many. Governor Oswaldt, you accuse the Committee's members of having committed the crime of being "bureaucrats." Yes, they are bureaucrats doing bureaucratic work. This is a committee that gathers information on disputes between species and reports on them to the Senate. We, as Senators, simply do not have the time, the information, or the expertise to do all of this ourselves. Just because Governor Oswaldt is ignorant of other species doesn't mean we all must be ignorant. The Interspecies Advisory Committee provides to us the insight that we need to make our decisions. It performs an important role, and should not be abolished.

| I have doubts as to the usefulness of this committee, but I cannot see abolishing it just yet. I vote against.

| The vote is closed, and the measure passes with 60% in favor and 40% opposed. I am pleased to see the Senate be rather united in this attempt to trim some of the fat, as it were, from the bureaucracy. With the exception of Senator Ryuun, whose vote came as a surprise, it seems that the votes against the measure were purely predictable, as was Senator Crion's disgusting language in opposing the measure. Mind yourself, Senator Crion, or a conversation with Vizier Gemmell may become necessary.
