| One is thousands of years ago, one is ten.
I personally don't believe Exar Ray is an excellent candidate either, I would much rather see a more coreward Senator chosen.

| I imagine you would be delighted if someone nominated you Senator Ordan, though I can hardly imagine you would have the time with everything else that you do.

| I appreciate the confidence from the Senator of Vjun, but I cannot and will not accept this position. Such a committee must steam from someone with more Defense experience then I.

| That pose a problem then. With Senator Veritas resigning and Senator Ray declining to be on the chair, I do not see anyone that has enough military experience to chair this Committee.

| Senator Oriel has extensive Stormtrooper Corps experience... a decorated war hero none the less with a long history of defense legislation.. An Outer Rim candidate, yes, but with a solid Coreward background. Also the most successful legislator in the Senate.

| Oh, Senator Ordan, please do not think that was a suggestion for someone to nominate you. It was simply a comment directed at yours regarding your preference for the nominee to be from a core world.

| Senator Domon, I appreciate your nomination of myself. Senator Ordan, I would care to point out that not all military service must be performed on the front lines. Senator Oriel's resume is impressive, yes, but those who work in logistical areas of command are also valued amongst the military.

| I believe either Senators Oriel or Ryuun would be suitable to replace Senator Veritas. I would nominate Senator Ryuun though.

| Senator Ryuun represents a shipyard world. As Planetary Defense Committee Chairman he would have to negotiate the best possible deals with a number of shipyards. I do not believe that it would be appropriate to appoint a candidate with a conflict of interest as large as this one. Vjun is actually an appropriate candidate here just because it lacks vested interests.
The Clone Wars issue is not a big one, Ryuun served with the Republic Military and is a good Imperial Senator so far as I can see.

| Hardly a conflict of interest, Senator Terrawin. If anything, being from a ship-building world places me in a better perspective as to the capabilities of shipyards to produce what worlds will request, wish or require what sort of defenses. Druckenwell, of course, can hardly produce the prestigious Star Destroyers, for example, and most of our product is sold to Outer Rim worlds. If anything, I believe it would be by and far easier to ensure that Druckenwell not receive extra or favored contracts just because of my position on the committee, if I am selected to be chaired as such.
Of course, if the Ethics Committee ever believed that I was abusing the position, I would be more than glad to subject myself to a replacement vote or board of inquiry.

| Perhaps someone with little military experience and from a world without many military interests or located as such that there is little to be gained by abuse of the position?
There are advisers and experts who can present the information needed to the chair that they need to make the decision, after all, Senators make decisions related to economics, social policy and many other topics that they don't have extensive personal experience in.

| The Cronese Mandate nominates Senator volFyr to chair the Defense Committee. She is after all the embodiment of the description she has given and would be a perfect chair for the Committee in terms of being neutral, lacking military experience, and her system has no military interests.

| I for one would prefer someone without any significant military experience. The military has no shortage of advocates in the Empire. We, as Senators, are advocates of the people and not the military. I see the Chairman of the Planetary Defense Committee as someone who supports the armed forces, naturally, but is also a manager who serves the interests of the people over the interests of Generals or Admirals. It's been my observation that Senators with career military experience are too often deferential to requests for military spending and military projects, etc. I would prefer someone who can stand firm and say "No" to the relentless expansion of the Imperial war machine we've seen in the last decade, and the heavy-handed role it has taken in planetary defense matters.
I don't expect Senator Ryuun to do this, especially considering his world's similarly relentless expansion of its own forces and its tendency to use them to intimidate its defenseless neighbor. I don't think this is the attitude of a man who should be the Chairman of the Planetary Defense Committee. Senator volFyr, on the other hand, is a desirable candidate insofar as she seems to be an open minded person of moderate character who, at Monor II, demonstrated a desire for interstellar peace that Senator Ryuun did not. Senator volFyr is also regarded favorably by the Imperial military, as I understand it. She has proposed a number of measures to honor and support the armed forces.
As for Senator Oriel, I can't overlook the fact that he is the Senate's most successful legislator, though I often disagree with his legislation. Naboo is undecided for the time being.
Artemis Vanden Representative of the Naboo
