Senators, I have serious news that concerns many of you directly. Some of you know already that a consortium of prospectors from Brentaal employs a number of miners and other merchants on Praesitlyn, to mine carbon and other resources from the planet and to provide for the security of these operations in the face of consistent racial threats from the Sluissi population of Praesitlyn and also Sluis Van, which considers itself "in charge" on Praesitlyn. If it is "in charge," however, it didn't demonstrate it today, when a heavily-weaponized freighter was permitted to strafe the encampment of miners and merchants on Praesitlyn, killing many of them in a dastardly and unprovoked manner.

The dead have been identified, but their names will not be released until the families have been notified. For now, however, I'm able to identify for you their species, occupation, nationality, gender and age. The list of them is as follows.

—Human Miner from Brentaal, Male, Age 40
—Human Miner from Brentaal, Male, Age 32
—Human Engineer from Brentaal, Female, Age 25
—Human Security Specialist from Anaxes, Male, Age 39
—Human Security Specialist from Anaxes, Male, Age 31
—Human Pilot from Telos IV, Female, Age 29
—Wookiee Co-Pilot from Telos IV, Male, Age 149
—Human "Peaceful Observer" from Chandrila, Female, Age 45
—Human "Peaceful Observer" from Naboo, Male, Age 56
—Givin Engineer from Yag'dhul, Male, Age 90
—Givin Engineer from Yag'dhul, Male, Age 71
—Human Merchant from Empress Teta, Male, Age 53
—Human Miner from Deralia, Male, Age 40
—Human Imperial Diplomat from Alsakan, Male, Age 35

These are hard-working people who labored admirably, providing for themselves and their families and, in the process, making Praesitlyn a better world for its people. These people were—and those who are still alive are—heroes, leaving their homes to bring the light of Human society to the darkest corners of this galaxy. Brentaal did what it could to defend them, and they did what they could to defend themselves. I'm not convinced that Sluis Van, whose "Khedive" claims to be responsible for the Sector, did what it could have to defend these heroes from this shameful and anonymous attack.

The mining operations on Praesitlyn have been suspended until assurances are received that the security situation has improved. Senators, for those of you whose world lost a citizen in this attack, I ask you join me in directing your questions, and frustration, to Senator Domon of Sluis Van.

A terribly sad story. however we cannot focus any anger onto Senator Domon, sure the planet authorized the freighter. It's not like they knew about it's intent.

Of course, but it's worth asking whether the "Khedive" of Sluis Van, who claims to be responsible for the whole Sluis Sector, should or even can defend the Sector better than an Imperial Moff. If another one of these incidents happens, it might well be Anobisians who are murdered—as experts in mining, many of your people are also employed on Praesitlyn, Senator. It's worth inquiring whether, under the Slussis, our people are safe and the Sluis Sector is safe for business. Before we can bring jobs to these Outer Rim sectors, and education, and medicine, etc., there must be security. This must be provided for, whether Sluis Van does so or we have to do it ourselves. I will not be complacent on this.

This is an OUTRAGE!!! Many good, hard working Imperial men and women and other species all murdered in cold blood! This cannot be allowed to continue! I demand that Senator Domon explain himself!!! If the Senator from Brentaal authorizes it, I will dispatch a security team myself to ensure the security and stability of these men, women, and species!!!

This is indeed an outrage, Senator Tu'Rot, but an Acherin security team is not necessary. Senator Cambrist, I will point out that this tragedy has affected both sides, and insults will not be needed here. This is a time for us to work together; not against one another. As most of you know, Praesitlyn is not a heavily settled planet; it does not even boast its own defensive ships or stations, largely because there has never been a need. Two patrol craft from Sluis Van were on station at the time of this attack, which appears to have been carefully orchestrated. Logger's Point, a human-Sluissi logging and mining town was attacked prior to the assault on the Brentaalian encampment, leaving thirty-four good, hardworking humans and Sluissi dead, and not just working people, but families. Women. Children. This was a massacre, Senators, for both sides who have suffered, and even now, the Sluis Sector under Khedive Thisst is revamping its defensive policies and redistributing defensive craft to ensure this does not occur again.

Gentlebeings, Sluis Van will not idly stand by while innocents are murdered. This attack seems to be aimed at straining already thin relations, but we will not stand for it. Instead, we will offer aid and kindness to all who have been touched by this terrible act, and we will, I assure you, make sure it does not happen again.

Empress Teta condemns this attack and concurs with the opinions of Senator Cambrist on this matter. It is our desire as an ancient Deep Core world to bring the modernization of the Core to the Outer Rim, but we won't do so unless those sectors provide the necessary security, or allow others to do it.

Naboo's observer on Praesitlyn was committed to a peaceful resolution of tensions in the Sluis Sector, and Naboo is committed to this too. Naboo is also confident in the ability of the Khedive to defend Praesitlyn from future attacks of this sort, and while it does regret the Khedive's failure to do so in the first place, it doesn't hold him responsible for a random act of violence that would be difficult for any of us to prevent. The proper course of action now is to support Sluis Van's investigation into who did this, so that the family of Naboo's observer on Praesitlyn, and the other victims of this attack, will find some solace in the knowledge that whoever did this isn't free to do it again.

I've been notified of the identity of this person, but his family hasn't yet. However, I knew of him and of his tireless work for a number of Theed-based charities and his activism across the Outer Rim, including on Praesitlyn. His family will miss him, Naboo will miss him, and so will the rest of the galaxy in ways it won't ever know.

And what has Sluis Van found out about the identity of the attacker, in these days since the attack?

At present, Sluis Van investigative teams have been working with Druckenwellian teams to discern the identity of the freighter Tough Job. The registration to a Druckenwell-based company was a falsehood; however, Tough Job was at one time registered to a now-defunct Corellian shipping company. Its vessels were sold off to pay off their debt before they went under and the ship was purchased by an anonymous party.

This might have been a temporary end to the investigation as we looked into the person behind the purchase, but the Tough Job turned up abandoned near Tatooine. At this time, the freighter is in Sluis Van's custody for further investigation.
