| Drone, or "droid" starfighters are dangerous. In saving costs on pilots, life support systems, etc., a droid starfighter can be both produced and purchased en masse, and, potentially, be armed and armored far more heavily than a conventional starfighter. This combination can make them formidable, as indeed they're intended to be. However, the cost-efficiency can also make them affordable to planets that can't otherwise defense themselves, and can save lives too by removing pilots from combat. The Senate does not deny the advantages of droid starfighters, but it does see their potential for misuse; the Clone Wars are a recent reminder of this, and it is with this in mind that the Senate enacts as law the following regulations on the production and sale of droid starfighters.
i. Any and all sales of droid starfighters by or to an Imperial world or any businesses or persons under its auspices shall require the approval of the Defense Committee—the Committee may consider these sales on a case-by-case basis or issue an Aurek-class License to a reputable Imperial world, business, or person authorizing all future sales by or to that world, business, or person.
ii. An Aurek-class License shall be approved by a majority vote of the Defense Committee with the signed endorsements of three Imperial Senators and without the objection of the Chair of the Senate.
iii. No droid starfighter or correspondent programming shall exercise any control over its own manufacturing processes or have any semblance of "machine sentience." Any and all droid starfighter designs intended for mass production or sale must be submitted to the scrutiny of the Defense Committee to be sure it meets these requirements. (Facilities where these designs are produced must also be open to the scrutiny of the Committee).
iv. To encourage the employment of "living" pilots, planets, businesses, or persons that own and operate both droid starfighters and conventional starfighters shall be entitled to claim a tax deduction on the order of 1,000 credits per year per conventional starfighter it owns and operates.

| Although it one of many, my world saw itself torn apart internally by the Clone Wars. While we believe Brentaal is a world that can handle drone fighters responsible, hence our agreement to participate in the delays field testing of their new craft, the thought of another Clone Wars breaking out is one that brings pause to any Deralian.
