| Is not everything said here 'for the record', Senator Fitzgerald? But for the record, as you say, no. I have no problem with it. There were many issues in the Telosian government that needed to be....corrected. Fortunately for Mr. Fowlkes, I did not campaign against him when he was elected as Senator, or things may have been different. One cannot tell, of course. I am sure though that if the people knew the truth, they would not want to be represented by a traitor.

| But Miss Romanov, can you actually say he was a traitor? Other then media sources, can you honestly believe your words? As far as I'm concerned, Senator Fowlkes did everything he could for the betterment of Telos IV and her noble citizens. Are you to come into these chambers and tell those that had the pleasure of working with him, that his motives were in the wrong place?

| Looking back, I had my own doubts about Senator Fowlkes, Senator Ray. Senator-elect Romanov seems to have the best interests of Telos IV in line with the policies of the Empire. She has my vote of confidence.

| What are you all talking about? You "had your doubts about Senator Fowlkes"? About what, his infidelity? Fowlkes was a "traitor" to his fiancee maybe. But that's a totally inappropriate use of the word. Unless you somehow have knowledge about him that the rest of us don't, Ms. Romanov, can we please talk about you instead of your (dead) predecessor? I have one further question: do you seriously claim to represent the views of the Telosian people? I mean, honestly?
Eli Fitzgerald Senator of Ralltiir (10 BBY—Present)

| I don't mean doubting whether or not Fowlkes was a traitor to the Empire. I certainly can't state that one way or another. I simply meant doubts as to Fowlkes interest in furthering the aims of the Empire's tenets. He struck me as a bit wishy-washy on certain issues.
But as you say, Senator Fitzgerald, Senator-elect Romanov is the issue here.

| Do you honestly think that I would have been sent here otherwise, Senator Fitzgerald? I mean, seriously?
Senator Ray, I wish that I could say Mr. Fowlkes did right by the people of Telos IV, but I strongly believe that he did not. I believe that he lied to the people, betrayed them, and betrayed the Empire. In fact, I know that he did while he held this post. I also know that he still is.
But as Senator Fitzgerald so eloquently put it, we shouldn't be talking about him, should we?

| I do have evidence, Senator Ray. As Senator Fitzgerlald so kindly put it, this is hardly about Fowlkes. I will send the holovid to the office of the Emperor....I am sure at you will all see it in good time.
Governor-general...thank you.

| Enough. The Senate is adjourned for thirty minutes, at which point we shall re-convene on this petition. In the meantime, Ms. Romanov will escorted to my chambers.
~ A pound of his gavel and a prompt silencing of the microphones in the room ended the debate. Thirty minutes would give Pestage enough time to speak with Romanov and, more importantly, not enough time for Senators to leave the grounds and spread rumors to the media. Pestage appeared to be a conspicuously bad mood as his podium lowered into the floor of the chamber and he stomped out of sight, to his chambers. ~

| ~ Thirty minutes passed. Pestage in his elevated podium returned to his place as Senators returned to their seats. He pounded his gavel. ~

| I have had a rather pleasant chat with the Grand Vizier and he had graciously asked me to say the following:
What I have stated about Mr. Fowlkes is my personal opinion. I am in possession of no evidence pertaining to Mr. Fowlkes, and I was mistaken if I implied anything to the contrary. Furthermore, I have no reason to doubt the accounts I have read of Mr. Fowlkes's death and have nothing more to say on this topic.
So now are there any further prudent questions or legitimate concerns?

| Ms. Romanov, I'm grateful to hear that Telos IV shall be more capably represented than it was under Mr. Fowlkes. In light of what we've learned of Fowlkes this week, it also appears you are a sound judge of character--a good trait for a Senator. I have two questions for you. Once confirmed as a member of the Senate, what do you plan to propose first? Also, in your opinion, what needs to be done and what do you plan to do to accomplish "equality of women"?
