Welcome!

Welcome to Star Wars RP: A Galaxy At War (click here to join). We are what's called a "play-by-post, text-based roleplaying game," set in the Star Wars universe. There's no dice here, or statistics like "damage" or "hit points"—instead, we're about imagination, creative writing, and creative freedom.

We are different from most other RPs for two important reasons; 1.) our managers are accountable to the members, and to the rules. This makes the RP fair for everyone, and 2.) we follow the Star Wars storyline, or "canon," as closely as possible. This way, new members can jump into a universe that is familiar to them, and to us all.

For information on the setting or rules of the RP, please see the links at the top of this page. If you have any questions, our managers are always willing to help—feel free to post on the OOC (Out of Character) forum, here. Some frequently asked questions, however, are posted below. Good luck, and may the Force be with you!

Q. What is the setting of the RP?
A. The setting can be found here, but basically, it's after the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and before Episode IV: A New Hope. This is known as the "expanded universe," and includes information from books, comics, video games, and so on. For more information on the expanded universe and everything Star Wars, we recommend Wookieepedia—it is a source that we use frequently.

Q. What sort of character can I play?
A. Just about any character that you want, from smugglers and bounty hunters all the way to Senators, Admirals and Moffs and, of course, Jedi. Although there are technically only two Sith (Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine), there are also many Dark Jedi and Sith "acolytes" who trained under them. The only characters you should not play are characters from the canon, such as Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, etc.

Q. What is the "canon"?
A. The canon is the Star Wars storyline, as told in the films, the books, comics, video games, and other media. A Galaxy At War follows the canon as closely as possible and so, while our characters are our own creations, it is expected that they will not contradict the official, canon events of the storyline in a significant way (i.e. Luke Skywalker being killed, Coruscant being destroyed, etc). The rules explain this in greater detail

Q. Is there a limit on abilities, weapons, money, etc.?
A. No, with a but. We prefer that characters explain, in their profiles, where and how they come by their abilities, weapons, money and so on. For example, if your character is proficient with the Force, how did he or she learn it? If your character has a lot of money, where does it come from? Acquiring these items and talents over the course of the RP is preferable, but not required.

Q. Can my character have a ship, or ships?
A. Yes, your character can have a personal ship as long as it isn't too big, or too heavily armed. Examples would be the Millenium Falcon, or Slave I. Be sure to mention it in your profile, and remember that Wookieepedia has information on many ships you can choose from. If you want more than one ship, or a fleet of ships, these should be requested here. Moderators will review the request and get back to you.

Q. Can I play more than one character?
A. Yes, there is no limit. However, it is preferred that your characters don't all know each other, or assist each other.

Q. Can I own a faction, planet, or business?
A. Yes, provided that it is requested and approved and, also, that it does not contradict the canon in a significant way. Your character cannot be in charge of Coruscant, for example, but could be in charge of, say, Mowgle—an ambiguous planet without much information about it on Wookieepedia.

Q. Are the rules subject to change?
A. If members request that a rule be changed, yes. Otherwise, managers must follow the rules the same as members do. You can also request a new rule, if you feel one is necessary.

Q. How explicit is the RP, in terms of sex, violence, and language?
A. Sex and graphic violence should be implicit, not explicit. Profanity is permitted in the RP, within reason, if a character is speaking or thinking it. Out of Character (OOC), members should behave on the forums in the same way they would behave in public. See the rules for more detail on this.
