Seeking to establish a hold in the area, and ensure the safety of Cyborrea by acquiring a buffer zone, Xalden had turned his sight onto the world of Sionia, a small planet in Hutt space known for its species of "master thieves," that had supposedly been sold to the Hutts after they had been genetically manipulated. Xalden had sent his Black Hand pirates, a Marauder class Cruiser along with an escort of six V-Wings and six Z-95s. The vessels dropping out of hyperspace at the edge of the system as they began to scan the area, their weapons and shields powered up as they began to move closer to their objective, the world of Sionia. As the Marauder and its fighter escorts moved closer they began to mark anything they found in the area, mapping out the system and the vessels that could be found in the area before they came closer and entered into orbit. The Marauder had been ordered to keep detailed records of the area and provide them to Xalden as the fighters broke off and headed down to the planet. The total of twelve breaking into three groups of four, each with two V-Wings and two Z-95s as they began to skim the planet below, scanning and making visual checks as they flew of the largest settlement before they pulled off to return back to the Marauder with their information.

Jamulon Tiure's Maurauder-class Corvette, just having returned from "taking care o' bidness" with regards to making a weapons drop for Shiva had returned to Hutt space to take on rations and supplies in a world distant from scrutiny. This happened to be Sionia, and as such the Peoples Front of Dantooine fleet lay at anchor as the threatening forces approached from hyperspace. Naturally, this was also a calculated insult by Jamie's Clan against Xalden, allowing forces so close to his world was just another sign of their displeasure at the assault on such a now (heavily) pregnant Hutt. Naturally, Jamie himself was not present as he had rarely left his Bar and Grill in the last few months, gorging on BBQ during his long pregnancy and putting on more than a little baby fat as the life within him grew.

A custom GR-75 was moored alongside the Maurauder-class vessel, along with a Muurian Transport. On the approach of the hostile vessels they would raise them on the communicator "Un-named vessels, please state your purpose above Sionia?" came a thickly Dantooine accented voice from the Maurauder as it raised it's shields (along with the other vessels) and called it's fighter picket back from it's patrol course a minute away.

"Sure we can be real friendly like.." said the Dantooinian across the comm, not seeking an engagement, just curious why such forces were being dispatched to such a small world. "We're here from Dantooin' picking up some tools and hypermatter. It's pretty aggressive to just show up and launch so many fighters y'know partner."

The 12 Z-95 head hunters and one ARC-170 moved into a defensive formation close to the Corvette and the Freighters as they powered their engines. The lumbering GR-75 would have problems if it came to trying to run.

(( Sorry for the quick post as I have class. Just establishing myself here, but Jamulon beat me to it. ))

If Xalden's vessels were not concentrating fully on the People's Front of Dantooine ships, they might well pick up some signal readings from the rear, along the hyperspace vector they'd just exited not long ago, warning of imminent arrival of at least several vessels.

With no immediate vessels in orbit, or on the world below that would impede their progress, the fighters returned to the Marauder that was waiting in orbit. On board were Fifty Nikto warriors all waiting to be released upon the world below. They had been hired to help secure a location and set up a new store front for Xalden, of course if any of the populace decided to attempt to stop them, the Niktos had the order to shot first and ask questions later. The Marauder vessel began its descent upon the world, slowly cutting through the atmosphere before it landed in a large open space just to the west of the main settlement, the largest that the fighters had found. Its boarding ramp slowly opened with a loud hiss as it came to a thud upon the ground. Metal clanking as heavy foot steps marked the marching Nikto warriors debarking from the vessel. Their blasters and weapons in hand as they marched up the main road, breaking into ten groups of five each as they began to look around the area.

Over heard the fighters provided air support as they streaked across the main settlement. They were there to ensure that the Marauder remained safe on the ground until it's full compliment had been grounded, along with the supplies and resources brought with them that would go towards creating a base on the world. It wasnt too long until the Nikto found a suitable location, an old abandoned warehouse, built sturdy from the looks of it to handle storms and from the few marks they did find, small arms fire. Of course it was the Nikto's job now to deal with the protection and defense of the old warehouse as they began their occupation of the surrounding area, securing the building as they began to move in resources. When the last crate had been of loaded from the Marauder, it powered up its engines and began to lift off, it's down draft causing a heavy dust storm before it was out of the area, flying through the atmosphere and breaking through into space, still being covered by the starfighters. The vessels, having completed their part had orders to remain in orbit afterwards to provide support should the Nikto require it.

The warehouse was quickly being refurbished, the walls reinforced and repaired as the store front was set up first, the back of the warehouse being converted into a holding station to process the various goods that the Black Hand pirates were to bring them. Standing out front of the store were two Nikto warriors, watching the locals and keeping an eye out for anyone that look like they had trouble in mind. On the roof three walked in a shift, each one patrolling an area as they made laps along the roof and kept an eye out on the surrounding areas around the warehouse. While a few were sent out on patrols of three to look through the allies and keep them clear.

(this post probably stands either way! I'll assume it's good to go if there's no post later today..)

The forces of Dantooine were of course aware that here were the forces of Xalden the Black. Having powered weapons and designated targeting solutions upon the Maurauder-class vessel "Lets krong them up boys. Lock up their hypercomms. I want fire concentrated on their weapons and shields, let's cripple 'em." spoke the Captain of the Corvette. His turbolaser banks opened up with an unopposed first volley of turbolaser shots as it's various tractor beams locked on to a trio of the Corvette's fighters dragging at them to cripple their manouverability.

They blocked up all supra-light (subspace) communications frequencies in the vicinity of Xalden's corvette with a jamming signal.

The Dantooine Corvette's fighter escort moved up and began to engage the Xaldenite fighters up close, scattering laser cannon fire against them as they approached then using skillful combinations of their weaponary aiming to tear up their opposition with their blitzkrieg of superior fire. The ARC-170 moved also into an attack run alongside the Muurian Transport. The Muurian Transport and ARC-170's forward Laser Cannons and Torpedo tubes opening up as they got on the six of Xalden's ship, safely out of reach of it's turbolasers they moved over it's dorsal side slightly and tearing fire into the area around the sensor array and tractor beams.

"Yeeeehaw" came a cry over the radio from one of the Corellians as he unleashed months of tension in his attack on Xalden's fighters. The men on the planet looked like they were going to be unfortunate, the store was going to be pillaged, the warriors allowed to join the People's Front then butchered if not and the People's Front of Dantooine would sail on to another triumphal victory.

The GR-75s moved around the engagement, blocking the other flank's escape with their mass (the other blocked by variously the Maurauder or the planet) esssentially making a quick hyperspace jump impossible without ramming into one of them and obliterating both vessels. One of the GR-75s scattered it's cargo containers as it went, simple heavy cannisters filled with sand and rock, forming a field of slow moving debris to make jumping their way all the more impossible. While easy to target, the point was to lay down a "ghetto rigged" interdiction wall in their direction, (the one required to head to the "galactic north" and Cyborrea), while the Maurauder blocked jumping South (the planet blocking the other way).

"Power down shields and weapons and we'll leave you alive and free down on Sionia. If you fail to comply you risk being given no quarter.." would come the simple message to the corvette from the Dantooinians on all (sublight) radio frequencies, still operating on blank transponders under their "Most Wanted" status as supposed members of the "Red Mynocks", they appeared to be Pirates and were going to act like them.

It would be next to impossible for the Dantooine forces to know that the vessels at Sionia were in fact in away linked to Xalden, as the neither the Black Hand, nor Xalden himself made it known that they were connected, nor was there any concrete away to link the two together, meaning that the Dantooine forces had no clear way of knowing that the vessels were in fact Xalden's own forces. The Marauder had already brought it's shields and weapons on line the moment that the other vessels dropped from space, however, it had kept a wide berth away from the vessels, and remained so as the others moved closer, keeping their own ship out of the weapons range of those that had arrived. Their own fighters, the pilots of which were not completely stupid enough to fly directly up to the enemy vessels, were in fact stationed around the Marauder cruiser that had arrived with them at Sionia, meaning that it was more than likely the corvette now had either spacial debris in its tractor beam projectors, or its own fighters that it began to fire upon as the V-wings and Z-95s had kept a wide arm between themselves and the enemy vessels that began to fire into space as the Black Hand pirates kept away.

The captain of the Marauder though had to laugh as he watched the GR-75 vessel dropping it's large cargo containers into space while also sweeping into a wide arch, obviously their attempt to try and catch the Black Hand pirates in a trap, which they were well clear of at the fringes of the area that the enemy vessels were in. The V-Wings and Z-95s remained near their Marauder, keeping any of the enemy fighters away and making sure not to be drawn further away as they remained near the Marauder.

The Niktos on the ground had been appraised as to what was happening in space above, as the Marauder had been far enough out to be just on the edge of the Jamming signal, able to send off a message to Cyborrean and to the Nikto on the ground below. The Nikto quickly returned to the store front, turning it into a small fortress as they waited for any ground forces to converge on their point.

I'm going to just assume when you state "stay out of range" you mean made evasive jinking etc. The fighters and muurian transport are simply much faster so there's no way to "stay out of range". Equally, the maurauder approached you from "above" with regard to the planet (from deep space, arriving fairly close in behind/above your vessel), the only way to try and maintain distance would involve plunging down into the atmosphere (pretty suicidal) or attempting to skim around the planet, which could potentially work but would mean the Maurauder would (with it's equal speed) just be able to modify it's course to intercept and mitigate your flight.))

Either way, they'd committed now, under their identity as Red Mynocks, no doubt their actions would add lustre to this reputation. Unopposed by fire from the corvette, the turbolaser volley from the PFD Corvette struck a heavy blow against the vessel's shields, the ancient V-19s and their amusingly underpowered blaster cannons proving ineffective against the newer, more agile Z-95s who continued to fire upon the V-19s and opposition Z-95s, the Corellian and Dantooinian pilots, almost all clone wars vets knew the specs of their enemy and began to exploit their weakness as their superior firepower began to show thanks to the fire from the Muurian Transport. The ARC-170 moved in for a close range attack run on Xalden's Maurauder, tossing a torp up it's tailpipe, using the Muurian transport's fire as cover. They engaged the escort force with a determined fury, alongside the Muurian transport which also efficiently lanced out a plethora of fire, remaining behind the Maurauder-class vessel's (purely forward facing) turbolasers' arcs of fire and depositing proton torpedoes up it's tailpipe. The Z-95s shared their fire across the corvette and its fighters. 12 Proton Torpedoes ended up then in pursuit of the opposing fighters, with another 12 being emptied onto the hull of the slower corvette.

The cloud of dozens of cannisters dispersed to form a wide cloud around the GR-75s.. aboard the one which released the cargo a rather unfriendly surprise awaited.. a massive (some 5 meters long in the barrel) Heavy Ion Cannon, with a turret bearing a pair of turbolasers in a twin mount descended from the hull just above and to the fore of it. "Eat hot ions!" yelled the gunner of the Heavy Ion Cannon, the turret turning as the bow of the GR-75 swung to face the enemy, avoiding hitting it's own debris field, it sent a volley of twin turbolaser fire toward the bridge of the Maurauder.

The Dantooinian Maurauder kept up it's fire against the opposing craft, shocked it had not opened fire on it yet. The vessel had no way to escape from "range" of the Fighters and smaller vessels swarming around it, neither could it escape the guns of the approaching Maurauder (without diving down and being hopelessly vulnerable in the atmosphere), lancing toward it's hull as it made no effort to escape.

As only subspace (inter-system) comms had been jammed, contacting the warriors wouldn't be difficult. They made no attempt to land and attack yet.

(OOC: Afternoon is over, so.. sorry mate. Skipped. And yes.. I did get out of bed with an awful cold to post this. )

Jamie the Hutt's forces were happily stunned by their success as their fire lanced it's deadly effect on the forces of Xalden the Hutt. The Maurauder's shield, struck by over a dozen proton torpedoes and two rounds of undefended turbolaser fire would begin to stutter out as the laser blasts from the Muurian Transport and ARC-170 would begin to tell against it's critical systems.

And could the Q-Ship of Jamie the Hutt have fired at a worse time? Probably not. It's heavy Ion Cannon blasts slamming a line up the hull from rear to foward. Hitting, in order, engines, sensor array and then the bridge itself. The ship itself would be lucky if it was only dead in the water, likely as not it would be suffering hull breaches in addition as the twin turbolasers from the GR-75 and the Dantooinian Maurauder continued.

As the evidently misguided crew of Xalden the Hutt's fighter Corps clunkingly flew in straight lines, many apparently shuffling through the pilots manuals for their specific craft as they did so. The laser and torpedo fire likely overwhelmed and crippled many of their number. "Like shootin' fish in a barrel." one Dantooinian would comment as he made short work of one V-19. The fighters continued pattering randomly a sequence of proton torpedoes on the hull of the Maurauder while keeping the majority on the opposing fighters.

And they all kept firing and manouvering.. the Ion cannon sending a beam of pure blue fire across the space and towards the Maurauder once more.

(Technically Afternoon is from Noon to Early Evening when light begins to fade, and since from my window it's still bright out and doesn't appear to be fading anytime soon, it's technically still afternoon)

One would have to consider the fact that a captain that didn't move their vessel was a fool, which this captain was not, considering that since the enemy had dropped from hyperspace in an aggressive manner, he had kept his ship far away from any vessel that arrived, including preventing the vessels from entering any kind of intercept course as he continued to keep his vessel ahead of the weapon range by constantly moving the Marauder vessel out of range while the fighters continued to do the same, ensure that none of the vessels took any kind of fire, and yet again it was still impossible for them to know that these vessels had anything to do with Xalden as they made no such connection. The captain though had to laugh as he continued to watch the vessels fire off into space and towards each other as his own Marauder remained well out of the firing range of his enemies for them to even land a hit on his ship as it continued towards the edge of the system and remaining out of range from any enemy vessel. A single message though was sent from the Marauder as the fighters hyperdrives came to life, the Z-95s and V-Wings jumped from the system as the Maurader sent out the message, which was broadcasted to the vessels that had arrived.

"Unknown Vessels, you have effectively declared war on the Hutts, say your last prayers and enjoy the few days left that you may have." The Maurauder vessel, which by now had reached it's goal at the edge of the system set course, it's hyperdrives firing up before it jumped out of the system, carrying the message to other Hutts that Hutt space was under attack by an outside source.

(I cleared the skip with Management, afternoon is measured as 6pm in most peoples books.. I think your continued and repeated timewasting on this thread and elsewhere probably undermines any sympathy I would be inclined to extend you on such a distinction.

You having used the standard "autos away" method, despite me stating that I was coming from above you (fleeing away would lead you into the planet itself). Ergo I'm going to have to dispute this. Particularly risible is the notion that your clunking corvette can outrun my fighters etc. Equally, you never requested your Z-95s be upgraded with hyperdrives.

As such. I'd like to request this be appealed to the discretion of management, as Xalden is clearly unwilling to accept reality e.g. One Maurauder somehow gaining distance on another of an equal speed, fleeing through a planet, fleeing faster than fighters with an higher speed than it - Z-95 fighters go faster than a Maurauder class, ignoring the numerous legitimate attacks. etc)
