Vjun had not been the best place for Amneris Wynlan. Her parents both died there, and then there was the accident....an accident that had left her hideous and deformed, so she felt. Her faithful handmaid, Domnhail, assured her that the burns from the acid were not that bad, but to Amneris, they were terrible.

Without a word to Bernard, who had been so kind and caring and offered to bring her physicians, Amneris left for home. She had left a note, however. Something filled with heartfelt words and expressions of gratitude, though it all seemed so hollow now. Between her and Domnhail, the decision had been made that she would stay in her family home, where she should have stayed in the first place.

It was more spacious than she remembered, light and airy, not the cage that it had been when her father ruled the house. Still, Amneris wanted to stay away from the light of day, and made Domnhail keep the drapes drawn at all times, except sometimes at night. And night was the only time she would leave the house, only straying as far as the gardens usually, never leaving the grounds.

For the moment, she was quite content being there, alone, with no one bothering her.

Since she left no one had see Zarcaine, not even his own guards or servants that worked in the large estate. No one got beyond the front gate, and no one was even allowed on the grounds. For the most part Zarcaine didnt know anything about what was going on beyond the front gate, he was kept to himself, not taking any visitors and even avoiding the staff, whom had been ordered to never be in the same room as he was. He didnt even take to wearing the synthetic skin that had once covered the prosthetic that made up a good portion of his left side. He had taken to sleeping in the study, the master bedroom having been untouched and left in perfect order in hopes that one day Amneris might return, though he had begun to doubt it as he just locked the room away and left it covered in sheets and plastic. Much of the east wing was left that way, all the doors locked and the rooms covered. The only ones in use being the servants.

He hadn't known that Amneris had even returned, or was at her family home. That wasn't until one of the bodyguards came into the study to inform him that she had returned. Zarcaine just looked up and shrugged, he wasn't too sure that he should even attempt to see her as he stood up and walked towards the door, finally going out for the first time in many months.

Amneris spent the twilight hour and beyond sitting on a blanket in the garden. Finn was with her, bounding after fireflies before he wore himself out and finally collapsed near to his mistress in an exhausted heap. She had a book in her hands and was idly flipping the pages as she absorbed the words.

"Ms. Wynlan, you need to eat something." Domnhail told her as she approached and sat a tray on the blanket. Finn perked up immediately and Amneris laid her book down on her lap.

"Thank you, Domnhail. You can go for the night." She murmured before she picked idly at the dinner, then re-covered her face with the veil she had taken to wearing. Domnhail, with some hesitance, finally walked off and retired for the evening. Other than the occasional creak of a cricket, or the muffled snore of Finn, the house and garden were dark and silent save for a small lantern for her to read by.

The speeder he took pulled up in front of the Wynlan family home, he didnt even know at this time that her parents had passed on Vjun. As he slid out of his seat he shut the door behind him, his two bodyguards with him approaching the door as he held his hand up. Each of them men nodding as they stopped at the front door as he went to knock on it before the door slowly opened on it's own. A gentle push opened it further as he stepped into the large parlor, his boots giving a small echo as he stepped further into the home. His eyes settling on the open door to the garden as he saw a small and gentle glow in the night. A few more steps brought him to the back door as he stood there silently.

Zarcaine's eyes focused on the figure that was sitting in the garden as he slowly opened the door. Stepping into the night again as he slowly approached. Each step sounding off as he walked along the stone path before he stood behind her silently. Kneeling down before his hand lightly touched her shoulder.

She startled as soon as a hand rested on her shoulder. the footsteps she had assumed to be Domnhail's, even though she had dismissed the woman for the night, but once the heavy hand was on her shoulder, Amneris was to her feet and scrambling away. A hoarse yelp escaped her throat also, and Finn jumped to his feet and started growling. The little dog couldn't have done much, but he was ultra protective of the woman that cared for him.

Finally, when she had put a safe distance between herself and the man, Amneris frowned behind the veil as her hazel gaze swept over the familiar figure. "Zarcaine? What....are you doing here?"

"I could ask you the same thing Amneris" He kneeled down as he held out his right hand, letting Finn sniff his hand and pick up his scent before he lightly pet the small dog and scratched behind his ears before he stood up as he sighed. "Last I knew you were on Vjun with your parents. I didnt even hear anything about you until one my the guards told me." He sighed as he picked up her book and placed the pages down before he shut it to make sure that none of the pages were bent or damaged before he set it back down on the blanket. He took a small step forward as he looked at her, though not pressing his luck as he stayed a few steps away from her, the same distance she had placed between them as he noticed the veil she wore, though didn't ask about it.

For any step he took towards her, she would take one back. The gloved fingertips of her left hand gripped to the edge of the veil that covered only part of her face. The part exposed was still quite flawless.

"I took them to Vjun for medical care. I was worried war was coming to Chandaar and I did not want them to die here....like that...." She murmured, a fact she had explained in the letter she had left him.

"They died....two months ago." Amneris admitted, without a hint of sadness or remorse in her voice.

"I'm sorry" Zarcaine stood quietly as he kept his eyes on her, not moving any closer as he brought his left hand up, the metal shining in the moon light for a moment before he brought it back down. He stepped back, then took a couple more steps back, leaving her be for the moment before he took a seat on a bench and looked at her. He was quiet, not sure what to say as he watched her, still noticing the veil, though the glove she wore on her left hand was new. He sighed as he looked at her.

"What happened." He questioned as he kept his eyes on her, wanting to know what had happened while she was on Vjun. He had been worried about her the entire time she had been gone, though he had begun to slowly shut everything out of his life the more he withdrew into his home.

Amneris shook her head some. "You know my father had been very ill. There was not alot anyone could do except keep him comfortable. He died peacefully in his sleep. My mother only lasted a few weeks after. She seemed to have given up the will to live." She said softly before she leaned down to calm Finn down, as he was still growling like a maniac.

"Why did you come here? Did you not get my papers?"

Zarcaine shook his head as he looked up. "I havent read anything other than the books in that dusty study." He stood up with a groan, his limbs sore from not being used. "I just wanted to see you when I heard you were back, though I dont think the feeling is mutual." He looked at the small dog before he turned to head back to the door, wanting to leave her in peace if she didnt want him there as he took to a small limp before his leg finally found its footing and he took to an easy stride as he headed to the back doors, pushing one open as he stopped for a moment before looking back at her in the garden.

Amneris frowned. "You do not have to go." she said, her voice cracking as she spoke. Her gaze found him and she scooped Finn up into her arms and he finally stopped growling. She was, however, careful to keep her face hidden from him. The scarred part, at least.

"What happened to you?" She indicated to the exposed metal. There had been guesses on her part that something had happened in the war, moreso than the little bit that he had confided in her before.

Zarcaine turned back to face her as he looked at her, his eyes on his wife, at least he thought she still was as he stood there. He brought his left arm up as he sighed, the memories of the Clone Wars coming back quickly before he looked at her again. "It's from the war. I lost it during the fighting. I've just kept it hidden because of how the Empire treats cyborgs." He sighed as he closed his hand into a fist before bringing his arm down and opening his hand again.

His left hand came up again as he gently touched the side of her face that she wasn't hiding, feeling the soft skin as he looked at her, his thumb brushing against the veil she was wearing to hide her face. "What happened." He was worried that something terrible had happened to her, though considering the loss of limbs he had already gone through, he could understand her fear.

Finally, Amneris put Finn down and the puppy happily ran off and started pouncing on fireflies again. She watching him until she felt Zarc's hand touch her face. "Please don't." She said, shying away just enough that he would have to advance again in order to remove the veil from her, if he could.

It would be noted that her clothes were different. Tightly laced corsets and flowing gowns with long sleeves, lace, and of course the dark silk wrap that kept her easily hidden away. What he could notice, when she moved, was some terrible scarring on her wrist, right where the glove and the sleeve met.

"It wasn't anyone's fault except my own, really." Amneris said as she finally looked to him. With some ampunt of hesitance, she spoke again. "I forgot about how acidic the rain on Vjun was. I took Finn for a walk." The puppy was fine. She had protected him, instinct, but had gotten horribly burned herself.

Zarcaine took her hand lightly, using his prosthetic arm so the cool metal would touch the skin before he slowly pulled her glove off, looking at the scarring that was left from the acid rain. A portion of anger began to rise in him, though it wasn't towards her, it was towards that idiot whom let Amneris go out alone without proper protection from the elements. His hand lightly traveled up her arm as he pushed the sleeve up gently. The cool metal fingers tracing over the scars lightly before he touched her cheek. His hand slowly pushed the veil back as he looked at her face, seeing the scarring there as he sighed and lightly touched her cheek.

"You still look beautiful. Plus you look better than I did when I lost most of my left half." He smiled lightly at her before he hugged her. He was still worried about her though as he looked to Amneris. "We have access to the best surgeons if you want them." Zarcaine didnt want to force anything onto Amneris as he lightly held her hand.

Amneris tried to pull away, but the cybernetic hand had more of a grip than she expected. He wasn't hurting her, however. "Zarc, please don't....." She turned her head, so he couldn't see right away. It was humiliating, but it was karma for what she had done to him.

To say she was shocked when he pulled her into an embrace would have been an understatement. She hadn't expected it at all. In all honesty, she had expected him to sign the divorce papers she had sent and never look back. It seemed though that he did not get them, which was somewhat of a blessing.

"I don't think I deserve that, Zarc." Amneris said, regarding the surgeons. "I will be fine here....alone and in the dark." She murmured.
