The Auril Sector Strikes!

Oh yes they do!

"PREPARE FOR BATTLE" yelled Hector at the top of his voice as his vessel approached the Lorrdian system and descended from hyperspace at the edge of the Lorrdian Gravity well. "AYE SIR" came the voices across the bridge of his ship. He was a stern man but they had a true goal in mind, that goal was to free Lorrd once more of the chains which bound it and allow its (often Tionese) Vianists their freedom, indeed it was not fair to bind a whole race of men based on the religious pining of their Gods.

Thus the Irregular forces of the Auril Sector had made the decision to respond to the aggression of the Lorrdians against their own people. "Launch IPV-1s, Scramble all Fighters, PREPARE TO ENGAGE THE DENIZENS OF LORRD, TONIGHT MY BROTHERS, WE FREE OUR FELLOW MAN! OR WE DINE IN OBLIVION! THEY HAVE SHED THE BLOOD OF OUR VEINS AND THE PEOPLE OF TION WILL NOT STAND IDLY BY WHILE LORRDIAN FREAKS KILL MEN"

The Fleet deployed as it descended from hyperspace, four IPV-1s, each with its escort of two TIEs, the Guard-class Lifter, and its brothers, the DP20 Frigate and the Bayonet-class emerged before the Lorrdian Fleet. The Guard-class burned its engines on full toward the Lorrdian Acclamator while the Bayonet, DP20 and IPV-1s streaked toward the Lorrdian Battlestation.

Shields were powered, and the attack was out of the blue with weapons bristling on the hulls of the half-dozen corvettes. Majestic beams of fire would rake forth from all vessels toward their targets as they approached. The Skies of Lorrd would be red with the light of laser bolts as fire was exchanged. In space a second wave waited to hit behind the blunt instrument of the raiders.

The Auril Sector had risen, and it had struck a blow as hard as that which had been struck against the (Many Ethnically Tionese) Lorrdians who practiced Vianism.

(( With nothing specifically stated, I'll assume this occurred after the completion of Stark's honeymoon. ))

Fortunately for the Lorrdian Defense Fleet, and perhaps unfortunately for their attackers, Lorrd's defensive forces worked on a rotational basis to keep the fleet up and running, at least until the Argazdan issue was fully resolved. With the massive Cronau radiation burst giving the Lorrdian fleet a few moments of advance warning, their unknown attackers would find them no easy meat. The odd ship that carried the IPV-1s, presently heading towards the Revision, Lorrd's heavy defense ship, would need to maneuver even as the assault vessel did so; accelerating as it was at an angle, the ship rolling so as to bring a maximum amount of its cannons to bear. There was no time for queries of commands to halt; with twelve quad turbolaser cannons rated at two-hundred gigatons per shot and four turbolaser batteries with eight cannons per battery, it opened fire with full force and fury on the Guard-class; as the ship came closer, it's twenty-four laser cannons, each rated at six megatons per shot, would also open fire. In itself though, it would be a moot point to engage with the laser cannons as first one, then two, then rapidly ten heavy proton torpedoes screamed from their launch tubes at the oncoming lifter, willing to take the smaller ship's blows at maximum range and trade them back with more power than the smaller vessel held.

The Cardan-IV station, where a decent amount of tactical control went on, was ready as best it could. With the majority of the warships heading their way, the Imperial political officer on-board made the call to scramble the six squadrons of TIE fighters within the hangars for defense. As the Imperial and Lorrdian pilots ran for the TIE fighters and began to exit from the multitude of hangars, the station itself returned fire, even as cannon fire splashed against its shields. The trio of turbolaser cannons and pair of ion cannons fired as best they could against the DP20 while from the pair of proton torpedo launchers, five emerged apiece to target two of the closest IPV-1 patrol craft. The pair of concussion missile launchers fired eight warheads apiece at the same pair of IPV-1s.

The defense was added to as the pair of Tartan-class patrol cruisers maneuvered out from the spindly end of the station's superstructure, ready to attack at close range if need be, and countered at the far side by the station's command area as the pair of upgraded Gozanti cruisers popped up to fire two proton torpedoes each from their ten-round magazine at the DP-20. From Lorrd itself, two squadrons of fighters also rose to join the fray; a squadron of Z-95 Headhunters and a squadron of HLAF-500 starfighters.

With Lorrd's fleet engaged, there were also others who held a stake in the Lorrdian government system; others who were more than willing to engage in the defense of their homeworld. Having returned from his honeymoon with his lovely wife but a day prior, Alyn Stark had been on-board the Viridian Sky, overseeing the removal of some of their personal effects. Ana had already gone down to Castle Stark, which had left Stark himself with his Shadowguard. When the attack came, the Viridian Sky itself was not immediately combat-ready, though the pilots had enough sense to raise shields and engage engine systems and warming weapons. The call came down to Stark, who was in the hangar of the attack. Thinking quickly, he ordered the drone squadrons on-board launched and then the Shadowguard to their ships. Moving towards the Infinite Thought, his personal YV-666, Stark moved to strap himself in as necessary. Activating his private channel, he informed the crew on the Gentle Breeze and the Infinite Thought to assume battle positions along with the Viridian Sky, tapping himself into the Lorrdian TacNet as a friendly craft.

The Guard-class would close to close-range, it's shields holding up but slowly declining under the bombardment from the Acclamator as it exchanged fire from its Heavy Ion Cannon, Proton Torpedo Launcher and Dual Turbolasers with the vessel as it closed at full speed. It's prow guns aligned with the bridge of the acclamator and allowing it's strong ventral shields to absorb most of the fire as it jinked, avoiding some of the torpedoes but the others never the less taking hits along its hull even as others were snatched out of the sky by the laser cannons onboard.

The DP20, TIE Fighters and IPV-1s were all moving at fighter speed, the TIEs shadowing their escorted IPV-1s and providing cover while being the fastest darned things on the table (as it were). They began to orbit the Cardan Station at close range, snapping off shots as they did and orbiting close in to prevent supporting fire being awfully effective as they rained down turbolaser and proton torpedo fire on the hapless docks. The defensive laser cannons aboard the corvettes and smaller capital ships present.

The Guard-class would doubtless not last more than half an hour under such fire, but the corvettes and gunship would continue to make a mess of the station's vulnerable mass, the weaker IPVs being sheltered by the numerous Quadlasers and Laser Cannons from the Bayonet and DP20, so avoiding significant fighter torpedo bombardment in combination with the darting TIEs.

From his flagship, Hector opened up his commlink to the Lorrdians "Lorrdian Bastards who killed my distant nephew. Stand down your defenses or they'll be destroyed. I'm signalling now to summon allied contingents from Alsakan. You have no hope to survive, stand down and let us rescue our kin."

A hypercomm ping went out.

Reinforcing the dorsal shields from the ventral rear sections, the Revision had a much better chance of survival, as well as assuring destruction of the Guard-class in far less than half an hour. In a blow-for-blow, the Acclamator-II could continue to reinforce its shields and survive longer, even with its bridge being targeted. The captain on board felt the deck shaking beneath his feet, but stood watching through the holo-screens as the blasts came in. "Fire another salvo," he ordered, and another ten heavy torpedoes would streak from their bays at the Guard-class. The torpedo strikes would take the most toll on the ship, what few got through, for the point-defense cannons on his vessel were as expert as those on the enemy vessel, followed by the turbolasers; the singular ion cannon was simply insult to injury. "Change angle to three-four-zero. We'll pass her on the right. Engage all weapons as long as you can and get us to the station."

The enemy had fielded eight TIE fighters, while a total of seventy-two were now out and active about the close-in enemy forces attacking the station. Working within their squads and taking advantage of the fact that the attackers had neither deigned to fire upon them or take real notice, two full squadrons came down upon the attacking DP20 while one squadron moved to engage the eight enemy TIE fighters, with the remaining three engaging the Bayonet-class at the best they could. On board the station itself, the political officer made an emergency broadcast, "Attacking vessels, this station is under the protection of the Imperial military and has Imperial personnel on-board. Stand down under orders from Colonel Vasko. I repeat, stand down immediately." The proton torpedo and concussion missile launchers had been set to target, as best they could, the DP20 for the time being. Unfortunately, while the stations trio of laser cannons and pair of ion cannons did what they could to field warheads, they would nonetheless be losing shields at an alarming rate.

The problem, of course, with being close range meant that the pair of tractor beams on the station would also be working hard to lock onto and slow the DP20 while 'above' in relativity to the station, the Freedom and Justice, equally as fast as the attacking capital vessels, hammered down at any warheads they saw with a total of four laser cannons, perfect for interdicting warheads and easing the burden on the station while simultaneously sending extra shots into the IV-1s. This left the Infallible and Last Run, two of the Gozanti cruisers, to begin harassing one of the closest IPV-1s with proton torpedoes, expending their magazine of eight torpedoes each at the IPV-1 while, unnoticed, the remaining pair of Gozanti cruisers Sky's End and Blight, had circled around to the rear of the attacking formation, closing and firing their entire magazine of a total of twenty proton torpedoes at the Bayonet-class.

The Lorrdian Control System planetside received the message and replied back, "Stand down your attack. The Sector Moff has been notified and we are signalizing reinforcements from Druckenwell and Sluis Van." The respective hyperspace pings went out as well, calling for aid.

This of course, left civilian assets. Having been placed as military reserves under his command by virtue of his position and through quick messages to the Ruling Houses, Stark was now prepared. His small formation was hardly impressive, but when it hit, it would hit hard. The Viridian Sky was the first into the fray, having maneuvered with its superior engines 'above' the embattled Acclamator-II and Guard-class as the larger ship sought to pass the smaller. A rotation had brought it into firing position as it passed over and it unleashed its own blasts from six turbolaser turrets, quartet of dual laser cannons and six quad laser cannons on the 'top' of the attacker. Beyond it already, the smaller PLY-5000 Gentle Breeze had launched its compliment of defensive craft in the form of a trio of R-41 Starchasers and a trio of MorningStar-B starfighters, which accompanied an already curious line of troops that included a squadron of T-009 drones, a half-squadron of S-005 drones and a total of eight odd vessels to include a Tri-Mark VII Interceptor, a YV-929 armed freighter, a Pursuer-class enforcement ship, an ILH-KK Citadel-class cruiser, a Clone-style Z-95 starfighter, an AIAT, a Rainhawk-class and there with them, a YV-666, with a PLY-3000 riding defense in the background.

"May the Emperor have mercy.." Cynum would utter as his ship spun away from the combat, the Bayonet-class and the DP20 acting in tandum and breaking off toward the moons direction from the main engagement. The vessels shielded eachother with interlaced gunnery as they jinked and manouvred away at high speed, likely drawing some of the torpedoes into the dock as the manouvred close to it. The comms officer was injured by an exploding console and the message arrived in his headset before the next reserve message could take his place. The vessels were (by cooperative use of fire) able to shrug off the passel of torpedoes and slow firing weapons behind them thanks to an extremely intense mass of laser and quadlaser fire, resembling a wall, as they moved off toward the Moon, Lorrd II.

The TIE Pilots were ejected, and a medical shuttle was launched from the retreating bayonet to recover them from the void of space. It blinked a clear constant Medical IFF backed with its distinctive colouration, it should be easily recognizable. Their craft would doubtless be destroyed quickly upon ejection, but in case they were not collision courses had been autoplotted in to key vulnerable subsystems.

The IPV-1s escape pods would also begin to fire off as the vessels, packed with torpedoes and fuel, their reactors set to overload and detonate, accelerated to maximum speed, powering up their main drives for ramming and sending themselves on direct courses into vulnerable areas of the docks, where they would detonate after impacting as kinetic projectiles at their maximum speed (76MGLT) - these large projectiles would doubtless wreck the dock with their four eyecatching detonations that could even be seen during the day down on Lorrd.

The crew who had abandoned ship would use the small thrusters on their chairs and pods to attempt to clear the warzone. The Guard-class launched it's evacuation shuttles and similarly the crew had abandoned ship and were burning down toward the planets surface. Only a skeleton crew and some marines remained aboard as it gunned its engines to full whack and dipped it's prow, to bring it down amidships at the bottom of the command tower of the Acclamator-class vessel. It's ridiculously well shielded mass and armour proving its worth as it ploughed down at full speed into the larger warship, as it was (at the front) essentially a block of metal reinforced with cradles for the craft its sheer mass, being concentrated on the daggerlike prow, going down like a triangle to the pointed front with the engine block in the rear. The heavy ship, designed to be able to resist robust bumps and scrapes unharmed, was up to the task of ploughing into the large Clone Wars era ship, likely piercing deck after deck, its turbolasers and ion cannons still blasting away as it impacted but the arcs of most of the acclamators turbolasers being restricted as it impacted heavily, pushing the ship down toward the planet with its full engine force (designed to carry several smaller vessels, it had powerful "tug" engines fitted).

The turn that the Revision had already begun to make was what truly saved it, reinforced even further by the eight electromagnetic rudders that shunted the exhaust particle beams. Dipping it's starboard 'wing' with the maneuver as it aimed to pass by the Guard-class on a semi-equal level, the bridge survived unscathed, the Guard-class impacted heavily upon the starboard wing, it's advance slowed by shields that strained to hold it back and then collapsed, allowing the ship to tear through deck plating as it continued on its way. With a massive tearing sound, a good sixty or hundred meters of the armored hull tore free of the ship, the venting gravity pushing its course away from the Guard-class as it continued its plunge, the enemy ship's own course likely carrying it out of the way of the planet itself to continue on into space or perhaps throwing it into the planet's atmosphere where, being a small ship and out of control, it might well burn up.

Still bleeding air and crew, with alarms ringing from dozens of points, the captain regained his feet from where he'd been thrown to the floor by the impact. emergency lighting lit the bridge and the holo-screens that provided his outside view were flickering. One engine was completely offline and the damage to the ship was incredible. Hundred were dead likely, perhaps more injured, the captain could not yet get an accurate count. However, his ship was all but dead in space for now and out of the fight.

The TIE fighters, with their pilots ejected, were rapidly fired on and destroyed by the Imperial TIE pilots; in the confusion, it was possible more than one pilot was struck and killed by a rapidly passing TIE fighter, but who could say? In the time it took the IPV-1 crews to rig their ships to blow with torpedoes and fuel and eject their crews, indeed, before maximum acceleration could be achieved, the HLAF-500 squadron showed up. Packing four proton torpedoes each, they opened fire just as the crews abandoned ship. Moving faster than an accelerating IPV-1, especially one that had no crew to man its defensive weapons, one, two and three ships fell to the torpedoes, save for the last which struck the furthest end of the Cardan-IV, detonating in a brilliant blast that rocked the station and tore the bottom section of the docking platform free. Thankfully, the control tower remained intact as further explosions rocked the damaged structure.

Now, though, there was a chase on, as the Z-95 Headhunters opened fire en mass with their concussion missiles on the DP20, eight warheads per craft for a total of ninety-six concussion missiles in a truly inspirational staggered salvo before the ships closed as best they could to cannon range to engage. 'Above' and behind the DP20 and the Bayonet-class were the pursuing Tartan-class cruisers, with the quartet of Gozanti cruisers remaining behind to conduct damage control with the injured station.

Unfortunately for the Auril Sector forces, there was still an issue lying in their path. The Viridian Sky had swung wide of the battle now, and would be firing at both ships with all available weapons from their port side. From ahead, the dozen or so snub craft were preparing to engage.

The fate of the IPV-1s, was not quite as detailed by Star, they still did all an impact have intact albeit beaten down deflectors, and their weapons were still autofiring at their target (the dock) as such (and considering they were less then 200m away from the surfaces of the station when the crew ejected in a dangeous manouvre), it was literally impossible for the ships to be stopped before they would ram and detonate (and even if hit, explosion in such close proxomity to the station would be analogous to several dozen proton bombs), one in the command structure, one in the linkage section, one in the dock area.If anything, after the crews blasted out the vessels became more efficient as they were able to stop devoting power to life support systems and concentrate on keeping the shields up, which they did up to the point of impact, causing buckling and then destruction after a few seconds once they were impacted in the target.

The Armed Liner would be a bit of a surprise for the fast corvettes making like a tree towards the Moon. The Scan was actually quickly made with some photos during the tactical situation and command up-chained - it was pretty questionable really having craft like that in a warzone, highly innapropriate really. The Bayonet-class would have turned its eight heavy turbolaser turrets up and began slamming punishing volleys into the fundamentally civilian ship which was firing on them. The agile corvette set a course that would smash the tip off of the ships bridge by brushing along the thick armoured dagger of the Kuati vessel. The DP20 was also clearly not a very happy bunny, and as with the other corvette, the laser fire would be inconsequential on their shields (while their own mass of rearward laser fire secured them from pursuers for now, taking advantage of close proximity to cover eachother. At close range too the eight double turbolaser cannons of the DP20 seared out towards the stark ships around, with it devoting all its four torpedo tubes to a close range "spitball", unloading fifteen concussion missiles in quick succession from it's forward launchers, aimed to combine with the turbolaser fire this would undoubtedly be damaging to the most up-geared civilian liner not built to duel with the likes of the DP20. Naturally all the while the defensive laser cannons and fast turns executed kept off the worst of the torpedo fire by sheer volume and detered fighters from coming close, since each craft was covering the blind spots of the other. The massed laser cannon fire was simply shrugged off by the two extremely heavily armoured and shielded corvettes, why a DP20 was famed to be able to take on ships three times its size, a rain of laser cannon fire from snubfighters was of little concern, especially as they wheeled and dodged upward toward the moon, moving well out of range of the station.

Once they broke through the line of Stark's craft, they'd continue on their course to the moon, using its gravity well to augment their already superior speed and making sure those rear arcs were clear. The few Concussion missiles which could breach the wall of fire and keep on the trail of craft moving as fast as bombers would cause a couple of impacts but the shields on both would remain firm.

As for the Guard-class. It still had it's Skeleton Crew and some Marines aboard, and so simply continued its dive and swung around behind the larger and slower fleeing Acclamator, as the acclamator was considerably slower (and now had a gash in its hull to drag it) it was now facing being rammed once again (and as it was less manouverable it would not be able to avoid the extremely heavy ship half its length coming up its tailpipe), in addition, now the upside down Guard-class was powering its engines toward the Acclamator-class from behind, there was little the big ship could do to avoid ramming, this time clearly the objective, and there were so few weapons it could rain back on the Guard-class, shielded like a small star destroyer it was proving remarkably pugnacious as it snapped off volley after volley of turbolaser fire from its automated turrets while the defensive lasers did their work on smaller craft. Powering again for ramming speed it was set to crash directly into the rear ion drive of the Acclamator-class, while fire rained onto the place it aimed to hit.

Most of the landing pods that landed on Lorrd would land in the Frezen Province. Armed to the teeth they would take to the woods and scatter, having pre-arranged RVs for future operations to be coordinated, all Irregulars were trained first as infanteers and so they were armed and equipped to continue the war as need be in the Frezen province (wherever that might be).

The Medical shuttle would skim away after rescuing its quota of pilots.

The inbound hyperspace Sensor readings would indicate at least three craft not far away just closing on the system with Alsakan transponders. These ships would show as circa 300m in length and with an unconventional shape to them. Following them would be a rather larger mass shadow of a vessel over a kilometer long.

They would arrive next post.

(( I'm going to post the fleet arrival here and cut in. ))

And finally, at last, the ships dictated by Moff Shirnoq arrived. He'd lied, in a sort as well, when he'd stated he'd sent one ship. He'd actually sent five, and they appeared like death itself. The first and foremost, appearing closest to the damaged Acclamator-II, was an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer registered as Dominator. Flagship of Shirnoq's fleet, the crew was already expecting a battle situation, and as it arrived, stock was quickly taken of what was what. They were in time to see the Guard-class finish its turn and begin acceleration towards the Acclamator-II's rear. Captain Damien Colt snapped his orders quickly, and all ten tractor beam projectors were locked on to the accelerating ship, as well as thirty ion cannons to hammer and disable the vessel. Colt knew his emergence formation well, after all, and cursed as he knew where his support ships would emerge.

Before him and to the port and starboard, a pair of Imperial II-class frigates emerged, one several hundred meters before the Acclamator II and just below it and the second reverting in the few hundred meters remaining between the charging vessel and the damaged Lorrdian ship. Sounding out a general call for evasive action to all ships, Colt ordered all ion cannons to open fire while simultaneously willing the captain of the second Victory II to move his damned ship. Thankfully, the engines glowed with a surge of speed, but it would be a race against time to see if the Auril vessel would impact the stern of the Victory II or not.

Colt didn't need to see the readouts to know what was going on behind him. Acting as rear picket defense, a pair of Vindicator-class heavy cruisers had emerged, just beyond the moon of Lorrd II, the centerpiece of the conflict. Moving on an intercept course with the DP20 and Bayonet cruiser, warnings were issued to stand down for the Imperial military forces as comm chatter was blanketed by a general cease-fire order to both sides.
