| As a formal recantation and apology is lodged into the Senate records. I am unsure of my position, thus I would move for the chair to leave this motion open until the new ethics committee can discuss the matter. I will naturally bow to their ruling on the matter and withdraw the motion or leave it open accordingly.

| This censure having been endorsed by the Ethics Committee, and with 67% in favor and 33% opposed, the motion to censure is passed and Senator Kuriyoshi is formally rebuked for his comments. The chair does appreciate his retraction and apology, however, as well as his consistency in word and deed since that time. As a result of this, and as this censure was proposed prior to the Senator's appointment to the Monuments Committee, the chair rules that his position on that committee shall not be compromised by this motion. It may, however, be taken into consideration in future appointments.
