| "I will be honest, I came into this investigation with an open mind, and I have only been shocked by Moff Verilia's conduct and the behaviour which has come to light. I am saddened that the man has degraded his position to this extent, perhaps a result of his ill breeding. I admit that perhaps a man ruling his sector from a Moon reknown for its trash piles is hardly likely to be the most favoured appointee, but I feel he is unsuitable for office in even his meagre sector.
The arrangement on Eos is clearly a corrupt one. I am informed EPIC pickets turned away a diplomatic message from Monor II for the Eos Government - what right would they have to do so if they were not the civil power. I an uncomfortable with him blurring the line between public and private duties. The first duty of every Imperial official should be to his Emperor, then his office. I do not believe Moff Verilia's brand of self interest is appropriate, an altogether murky arrangement exists around the valuable asset of a moon.
I believe it would only be appropriate to Imperialize the moon and re-auction the rights to mine there. The stink of corruption is so strong that I can smell it from my Sector. If I sat in judgement I would not hesistate to condemn Moff Verilia for betraying his Emperor in such a fashion."

| I would like to state for the record my reluctance about this investigation. Not because an investigation isn't needed, but because I'm not convinced it is appropriate for the Senate, as well intentioned as Senators Ordan and Oswaldt are, to investigate an Imperial Moff. Despite the precedent that is being set here today, I have reconciled myself to it for the reason that the sheer magnitude of Moff Verilia's graft and egotism is so brazen, so bombastic, that it demands public scrutiny. Indeed, so conspicuous are Moff Verilia's misdeeds that the Senate and the people would need to close their eyes and ears to pretend not to see it. For this reason, Senators, I cooperate with the Committee's investigation with the expectation that the Committee's findings be advisory and not binding. I do hope one of the various chairmen of the committee can clarify this for the record.
Moving on to Moff Verilia, you know now where I stand. The position of Moff is a privileged one; first and foremost, a Moff serves the Emperor and the people, not himself. Moff Verilia, despite his distinctions in war, has a reputation as someone with no regard for anything or anyone but himself. To my knowledge, he has never demonstrated an enthusiasm for the Empire or its principles and seems to regard his position as Moff of the Cadavine Sector as something he's entitled to do with as he pleases. He's demonstrated no interest in politics except as it concerns him, his family, and his business interests.
As a result, the Cadavine Sector has a Moff who expends his energy (and often, his official authority) on his company rather than his people; he's used funds and ships to defend his business interests elsewhere, bribed pirates, and other misdeeds that this Committee has exposed. The problem isn't simply Moff Verilia's company, it's his seeming inability to put anything or anyone before himself. A Moff's first love should be the Empire, not himself. And though Moff Verilia has relinquished his company, he has not and cannot relinquish his ego and, in my opinion, it's only a matter of time before he abuses his position again, and betrays the Emperor's trust again.
My characterization of Moff Verilia is rather intimate and may be wrong in certain respects. I don't know the man well. I've attempted to, mind you, only to be met with the inexplicable hostility of the Moff and his nephew, who are so identical in temperament one finds it hard to believe they're not related by blood—unless, perhaps, they use the same drugs that some have accused them of. I don't know. What I do know is that this temperament is not one that's suited to be an Imperial Moff. All of Moff Verilia's indiscretions result from it. In this I don't think I state my opinion only but rather the opinion of the vast majority of us who are familiar with Moff Verilia.
In closing I'd like to address briefly the questions that Senator Oswaldt asked and that Moff Verilia has refused to answer, "Do you think it's appropriate for a Moff to advocate in the Senate on behalf of his nephew?" and "Do you think it's appropriate for a Moff to use his position to advocate on behalf of a company he owns?" These are simple questions that any Moff should be able to answer without incriminating himself. The answers, obviously, are "No" and "No." The fact alone that Moff Verilia finds these questions incriminating is reason enough for any thoughtful and introspective man to ask himself whether he is fit to continue as a Moff. I don't doubt that Moff Verilia has never asked himself this or doubted anything he's done in his life. Nor will he, ever. That is all I have to say, gentlemen.
His Excellency, Rainier Brandt Moff of the Imperial Sector (i.e. Coruscant, et. al.)

| "It appears we have left out Moff Shirnoq of the Kanz Sector, but I shall continue regardless. I cannot rightly agree with Moff Hong that Moff Verilia is unsuited for freedom. Granted, it appears he has made some rather bad choices and has acted the fool, to be blunt, but, as Moff Brandt stated, he has abused the sacred trust that we safeguard of the Empire, and his own ego has landed him in a trap from whence he has little chance of recovery. Like any drug addict, I cannot give him any chance of success without some form of rehabilitation. Yes, he has turned over his company, but to an underling who worked closely with him.
"Because I have been called upon, I will speak honestly. I do not like Moff Verilia, I cannot respect him for his questionable dealings and apparent misplacement of trust, but I do not have the right or position to strip him of his office. Moff Brandt has said more than enough for all of us."

| "Thank you Gentlemen, I do appreciate your opinions and feel they have added volumes to this investigation. The opinion of one's peers can be said to be the measure of a man and the opinions we have seen here will be a major source on which the conclusions of this investigation and its recommendations will be based." spoke Ordan, nodding to them and looking back to Verilia. "So, my last question, then pending anything from Mr Oswaldt you may leave. Mr Verilia - how do you feel that none of a random sample of your peers feel well disposed towards your conduct as Moff? As nothing else, from a purely introspective perspective does it worry you that your conduct is not approved of by them? And do you believe you will change and improve your conduct as a consequence of this investigation? Is there anyone you would like to apologise to?"

| To call the selections of Moffs that were chosen by Ordan as being random was to call into the question of ones own sanity. It didn't help that it seemed at one point in time, Ordan either had his lips firmly planted to the backside of one of those Moffs, or vice versa. Then again, Darres didn't have much to worry about in the form of Moff Hong, a pervert of a man whom enjoyed the company of men far more than he should, nor did he have to worry about Moff Levi, a criminal if there ever was one whom took it upon himself to constantly assault, defraud, and steal from the Emperor's subjects, nor did he need to worry about Moff Winder, a man so afraid of his own shadow that he'd call in a company of stormtroopers and claim that it was acting with hostile intent. He had his own choice words to say about Moff Brandt, yet he decided to keep those to himself, considering they merely reenforced the known actions and instability in the mans mind that it was perfectly sane and okay for him to break into people's homes when ever he wished, and of course there was Moff Cole, whom it seemed was merely here because he was the shareholder of a competing company.
Darres merely waved his hand, waving off the questions as he stood there. "Mr. Ordan, I could care less for the opinions and comments of this, "random sample" of Moffs, as I have no use for their opinions, just as I'm sure they have no use for my own, nor do I see any need to apologize to anyone. Whom would you like me to apologize to, considering I'm sure you have a long formulated list of people that you'd demand me to do so to, which I'd promptly wave it off. This entire personal crusader of yours to attack a single Moff has grown tiring Mr. Ordan, and one must questions the validity of an "Ethics Committee" that appears to be falling apart at the seems."Added (20 Dec 2011, 3:36 PM) --------------------------------------------- [ooc: To show that I'm above it, I wont be autoing Oswaldt's actions. However, It's been 5 days since my last post. I believe it's safe to say that we can skip him.]

| (( Several days, and opportunities, have passed for multiple parties to post on this thread. Due to it being drawn out and holding up several characters, this thread is hereby closed. ))
With the Committee done with its questioning, and under subtle suggestion from Vizier Covell, Moff Verilia was dismissed from the hearing without further incident and allowed to leave Imperial Center and return to the Cadavine Sector. The Committee was left to deliberate amongst itself as to its findings and what, if any, non-binding recommendations it would make to the Senate, which of course, had no authority on the matter of the Moffs, leaving the Gran Vizier and the Emperor ultimately responsible for Moff Verilia's fate.
