The day had come, the day the Ethic's committee had summoned Moff Verilia to Imperial Center Via Subpoena. Slai-fon was the first inside the building, sitting at the Chairman's chair, to the left would either be Ordan or Oswaldt, and the same thing for the left chair. It did not matter who sat where for the time being, he was still choosing between one of the two men on the committee to be his deputy chairman. That would come after their little meeting with Moff Verilia.

Ordan entered politely, nodding to the Chairman "Chairman Youngblood" he said respectfully and took his seat. He unclipped a dossier he had assembled on the Moff and set it down before him for reference. Now there was just Governor Oswaldt to arrive and they could get the hearing underway. The Moff's litany of crimes were manifold and he looked forward to getting his talons into the man and ripping out that evil.

Oswaldt lumbered into the room a moment later like a cranky bantha, a protocol droid shuffling in behind him for clerical purposes. He was friendly to the committee members however. " Hello Sly," he said to Slai Fon, giving the old man a friendly slap to the shoulder as he filed past. "Bert," he said nodding to Ordan and then taking a seat himself. "Sorry I'm late, Toydarian chef put something in my food I think. Been parked in the bathroom a half hour." He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead and set his few sheets of flimplast down on the table. The fact he had no pen or datapad showed he had no intention of taking notes or necessarily listening to Verilia at all. "Okay let's get started."

Darres had his own select thoughts on this entire matter. Of course he wouldn't openly speak of them, nor would let Senator Slai-Fon know that he lacked the testicular fortitude to stand up to Ordan, an openly narcissistic man whom would proclaim that he was working for the better of people, nor would he openly say what he thought of the chest thumping ape named Oswaldt that seemed to do nothing less than spew crap from his mouth about his service during the Clone Wars, relying on his reputation more than his actual persona or skills. Of course the Moff wouldn't openly state these things, merely just thoughts in his own mind as he nodded to the protocol droid that was with him, the doors being pushed open as Darres stepped into the room, the droid and a legal assistant stepping into the room with him as the legal assistant set a case down on the table in front of him while the Moff looked to the protocol droid.

As the time passed, while they waited for The Moff of the Cadavine Sector, Slai-fon had a lot on his mind, rather or not the Deralian's had a problem with his planet, and what he was going to do about the damages done to his home planet, just two major things, his health, the well-being of his friends and family were on his mind as well, but for the mean time, he had to see if Moff Darres Verilia was an innocent man or not, after all he did try to give his nephew a second chance before being censured. As the Moff entered the room, his eyes turned towards him and he nodded at Verilia. A few moment's later, he spoke. "Moff Verilia, I am sure you know why you are here... Let us begin... Ordan, you may go first. I am still waiting on my Protocol Droid."

Ordan clicked on his datapad. "Moff Verilia, do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? If you do, please answer this question for me, in a "Yes or No" fashion: Did you hire known pirates into your Eos Corporation?"

Darres nodded to the legal assistant before he nodded, his arms crossing over his chest as he remained quiet. The man that stood at the podium spoke up as he looked to Senator Ordan. "As according to Imperial Law, I will be handling the majority of the defense, as well as answering any questions put before my client by the Committee. As for your question, the answer is simple. No. As the term "Hire known pirates" implies that they are still committing the act of piracy. Those Former pirates that now work for the Eos Corporation are those less dangerous of the ones that were captured, and have been allowed to work as community service to reintegrate them into society."

"No it doesn't, what legal school did you go to young man?, this is not a court of law, this is a Committee, as such while Mr Verilia may have legal representation he is required to speak and not through a proxy when being questioned. He has been summoned to give his testimony. I asked him a direct question, if you answer for him again I believe we would be entitled to arrest both of you for contempt of Senate."

"Now Moff Verilia, Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? lets not piffle with semantics, you hired men who had committed acts of Piracy into your corporation. The only possible way this can have been done is if you granted them a pardon. I put it to the Committee that is wholly unethical either way, to allow men who have committed grant acts of larceny (and as likely as not rape and murder) to work for his company."

Darres shook his head, the Senator just now showing that it was nothing less than a sham of an inquiry and his own personal vendetta against the Moff as he approached the podium. He touched the legal assistants shoulder before he looked at the Senator. "You have your answer Senator. None of these men have been given a pardon. They spent their time in prison for their crimes, and those that were considered at the time to be of low risk, and showing good behavior were released into a Community Service program to finish their sentences and be reintegrated into society. They have spent their time Senator, there is nothing unethical with hiring men that have served their time in prison, and have completed a Community Service program before they were hired on full time."

Darres looked to the protocol droid that approached, of course it was recording what was going on and being said in the meeting as Darres looked to the legal assistant. A few words being exchanged privately between the two as he waited for the next obvious question from Senator Ordan that was going to reveal his personal dislike of the Moff.

It would seem that the Senator was show just how much of a sham this really was, or rather showing how much more than a hearing this was. As Darres looked up at the Senator he just merely nodded his head, a single soft spoken yes as he answered before he motioned to the legal assistant with him as he flipped through the folder that was handed to him. The thick stack of papers inside of it would be procceded by a cart of papers that would be brought in, many of them already redacted, with the means of protecting the identities of the clients of E.P.I.C.

"Let the Protocol droid from the ISB verify these documents (and that they are all the documents) and have an archive droid comb the communications" a Droid would wheel the records off and begin to crunch them swiftly and efficiently.

"Your family has been known to be involved in criminal enterprises in the past - Have you been in contact with any criminals or gangsters since your tenure as a Moff began? When was the last time you saw your Nephew, "Lord" Zarcaine?"

The same droid would later return and inform Senator Ordan, that they dont have the entirety of Verilia's personal messages and thus can't know if this is all or isn't, and further that it's a dumb question to ask. Which would then be followed by a few choice words towards the Senator that consisted of beeps and boops. As for the Senator's question to Darres, whom had his own few choice words of what he thought about the Senator, yet kept them to himself, the answer was simple.

"I've only been in contact with those that I was informed were business men. As for the last time I saw my nephew in law, I honestly cant remember, although it would seem with such a question like that, you're bringing up your own personal problems you have with him. Should we prehapes bring up an inquiry if it's ethical for you to try and wrap up two trials, I'm apologize, two hearings into one."

(OOC: Dude, you're not stating what is withheld so I am proceeding with the idea that unless you have stated it is omitted, then it is not. Most of the ones I quoted are in the Senate records anyway. It should be noted that I have taken screenshots and copies of these messages in case they ended up accidentally blanked.)

The ISB droid did no such thing as he was not Verilia's NPC, instead he verified that he would check the messages over from the records but would need access to Verilia's computers to verify that they were the only messages sent. The ones which indicated they were Senatorial were verified with the Senate Communication Array records, as were the ones involving ISB agents with ISB. Ordan took the piece of paper from the droid who had flagged up several shady messages sent by the Moff. "Moff Verilia, in your message here you promise to trade in classified information.
Here you attempt to bail your nephew out of the censure he got for his atrocious behaviour, acting nepotistically.
Here you attempt to influence an Imperial Security Bureau Officer to gain the classified information you promised.
Here you lied to the Grand Vizier about the message you earlier sent to try and bail out your nephew..
Here you attempted to bribe me to change my vote to bail our your nephew.
Here you agreed to use your corporate military to attack a member world of the Empire.

Do you deny these charges?"

Some minutes passed, a clock in the corner quietly clicked along the seconds as the committee sat waiting for the answer as Darres Verilia shuffled through his papers, seemingly in panic before staring at the wall for the rest of the time. Ordan raised a sardonic eyebrow, not at all impressed by the Moff's (usual) slightly insane antics and tapped his fingers on the desk before speaking.

"Moff Verilia has failed to answer questions when sworn under oath. I would like to request that the Chair of the Committee moves to arrest Mr Verilia for Contempt of Senate if he continues to refuse to answer when presented with evidence. He is clearly acting in a deranged manner and should be allowed to cool his heels in a cell for a few hours."

Darres had not in fact been shuffling through his papers in a panic, as it was more the fact that he wasn't even looking at the Senator. He had the questions on mind before he looked over to the protocol droid with him as it approved and opened its casing, receiving from with in a few sheets of paper before Darres nodded as he took the papers and set them down. Of course his waiting in answering questions was merely to add to the show that this was nothing less than Senator Ordan's personal vendetta against the Moff.

"What classified information, you'll notice that any information that was requested was in fact available on the public holonet site that list the ships. You'll also notice that while the promise was made, there were no actions to keep that promise. The security forces of EPIC decided that it was best if the vessels were not handed over to ensure that Monor II wouldn't start a holy war. With that last part though I'll not be answering any more questions due to the fact that they may or may not incriminate myself."
